    Subject: Petards

How many people actually use these? I use them all the time, I NEVER see people use them. I usually play vs corps to 1+2 leuts. I build a fb near the enemy, have an artillary foundry and stables (I play french), and spam petards. You can get them instantly with engineering school and they take 5 to down a wall. While you do this massive wall killing, rush in with gendarmes to reduce his economy to rubble.

Not only are they good at putting down walls, but if you find a FB, you can use the gather point to right click on a barracks, click twice on the petard button, find another, do the same. It takes them out quickly.

It just puzzles me, as no one I know has ever used them, except one person.

I use them quite often, im captain rank and when i use ottos in treaty pettards are one of my fav units to use, since jans can build a ton of barracks if you have alot of wood and then just make a ton of pettards and keep fb.  I was once called a cheater for doing that and the guy said he was gonna report me if i kept cheating with the pettards...lol.  I wish the asian civs had those types of units, id like to see india with petards.

They're probably my favorite weapon of all time, considering just how powerful they are and hwo they can deliver such a surprise.

They're too expensive imo to be used... A mortar needs to do 2 shots and has done as much damage as a petard and they cost equal ammount of wood. So how often do you do less than 2 shots with a mortar (or 5 for that matter to equal the damage of mortars to petards in same cost)?

Unless I'm mistaken, I thought the imperial howitzer damage is something like 825? That'd mean you'd need three. But a petard moves faster, and does its damage quicker. By the end of the game, 100 wood and whatever the other resource is isn't that much of a cost for me. It's all about taking down the walls as quick as possible.

But, -shrug-, I do like them when you have a chokepoint and you can mash yours units together to cause a wall of units while your howitzers blast his walls down.

Petards do 1500 dmg, so yeah 825 means 2 mortar shots.

Petards do 2000 damage in imp age, and I don't know many people who aren't in the 5th age after 40 minutes.

I usually like to use Native or Asian civs, so I only get to use them rarely. I usually use petards only in single player.

petards arent much used coz they are not really cost effective. It takes like 5 to kill a wall, but ur opponent will probably see more coming, so he will have a small army at ur broken wall, which kills petards easily as they die waayy too fast before they an do damage.

Petards cant be used at spots where u are fighting, coz they will be shot. They could be used for distraction maybe.. But id rather have mortars..
