I am a frenchie user yet not abuser. Personally i know i can lose because well i have lost. :P
Losing i find that any civ, even if i spam out Garms. which i do not do often. You just need to counter them well. walling in your self and having at least 8 barracks and 8 stables helps a lot. If you do not build enough then you can never keep up. Also you need a good eco. you can actually out eco a french user by defending and killing all his garms and making sure he does not build too many FBs. If he attacks for 10 min straight you can now full out attack(during these ten min you should also attack so he does not wall too much when you turtle. Musks can kill a lot of Garms behind a wall. This allows you to get a larger eco and te french will soon run out. Counter anything he has, so culs attack falcs, musks attack garms and hussars and pike units, hussars attack skirms and artillery. Just make sure you know what he is doing so get spies very early so you can see your opponent.

i have a good idea
u said that u had trouble beating the french and the russians
so be france or russia and avoid playing against freance or russia and u have nothing to worry about
another idea is to be spanish becase the can counter artillary, infantry, cavalry, and a forward barracks with lancers, pikes, and like 6 lilbombards
if u use the spanishh dont get any artillary except the factory lilbombards
P.S.
get HC shipments that improve pike train time cuz wiht fencing school and the archaic unit upgrade the pikes appear instantly

So you play british. Use musketeers if he spams gendarmes/dragoons and musketeers/halberdiers. For gendarmes and dragoons you need to place the musketeers in melee mode. For the musketeers and halberdiers, volley mode is required. If he switches over to voltiguers you just make life guards. As for artillery, i'd suggest not using too many of em, if preferably, just use mortars to push him back into his own base. Don't try to outeco him cause you'll most likely fail, unless he's a brainless newb who spams gendarmes even on melee musketeers. For russians, using mortars is a must cause you need those forts away from your base. Use longbowmen to counter the halbs and musketeers at first, it's possible you'll need to use musketeers if you feel wood running low. if he uses cavalry, you switch over to musketeers if you aren't using em already. Don't expect too many cannons aside of mortars from time to time. for those you'll just need to use a couple of life guards.

a lot of people use the french so its kind of hard to avoid people who use french most of the time. any civ can counter artillery, infantry, cavalry. factories dont produce lil bombards. they produce heavy cannons and the are better then lil bombards because of imperial upgrade. i suggest you dont use heavy cannons or lil bombards because they train way too slowly and factories can only produce one heavy cannon at a time unlike the art foundry when you can make 5 at a time. i would recommend having unction in your deck because to own french you need 10 missionaries for a 63% attack increase with some pikes and dragoons and they will pretty much kill gendarmes pretty quickly. as for the russians if they spam infantry make lancers and skirms along missionaries to back them up and then some mortars with 1425 siege damage which can take out a fort pretty quickly.
