Subject: Let us know what you think

    Hey everyone,

We would like your feedback on the Age of Empires series.  If you have time answer these questions and let us know what you think.

    1.    What are the signature things that you consider to be an essential part of an Age of Empires game?

    2.    What are the things that you like the most about an Age of Empires game? Why?

    3.    What are the things that you dislike the most about an Age of Empires game? Why?

    1. Gathering multiple resources, having a wide variety of civs to choose from, and a good, hard counter system.

    2. An excellent counter system to separate the noobs form the pros and to encourage micro.

    3. Nothing, really.... I mean, I have nothing to complain about (or I wouldn't be playing the games)

Know what's weird? Day by day, nothing seems to change. But pretty soon, everything's different.

    1. unique home cities and civs, good rating system, active community, counter system.
    2. Different civs with different units, ages, vills
    3. partial civ imbalance (I know you work hard to fix it though!) and the whole dropping system and thr 'failed to join game' message-- mostly multiplayer only things that have nothing to do with gameplay.

    1) Large numbers of civs with obvious differences, even though they share some of the same units and many of the same unit-types.  A historical setting from BEFORE the world wars.  More than 2 or 3 tech levels, with a variety of upgrades for both individual units and all units.

    2) The games are pretty fast-paced with just a few minutes of economic set-up beforehand.  This means you can get a good variety of strats with each civ.  They also take place in settings that are a little unusual.  Basically all of the stuff of #1.

    3) Homecities take time to build up to a good level, meaning you need lots of games to do the better strats for each civ.  By the time the homecity is that high, your rating barely changes.  An ELO system would be much better.  Also, the first 5 or so minutes could use some additional raiding opportunities and such to make the fighting start sooner; just limit it so that the variety of strats can continue to exist.

    1. Controlling your own city and finally kids can now be in charge. Also, in AoE3, the best part is that when playing online or on skirmish, anything can happen and it is not the same old plot. The fun never stops as the challenges you face daily are different with the maps, civs, and players.

    2. I am a big fan of strategy games. I mostly said everything of what I like about this game in the first question. I basically just love being in command.

    3. Online issues really do bother me. Failure to join, drop tricking, etc. Herding bugs in the game become a pain and Japan and India are becoming way too popular online. This is all I can think of as of now.

    1. Gathering. OP units. Think AOE2 had it pretty much right. AOE3 possibly made it too simple in a lot of ways. Liked the oxen going between markets.

    2. Team games, especially 3v3 and 4v4

    3. Cheating, cheating and a bit more cheating. Problems with the players and the coders, first should not do it and the 2nd should code to a higher quality. Lag is also a big issue, some alternate algorithms to compress data would be good. Also if PC framerate is rubbish the game automatically scales back graphics.

It would be nice to have larger armies and better graphics and somehow make a campaign of a team game. Better medics would be nice as they never come into play.

    1. Historical units, gathering resources, various civilizations each with their own unique units.

     2. the three different attack styles: hand, ranged, and siege. it seems more realistic with a halberdier throwing a torch at a building to destroy it rather than whacking it with his halberd. (more AoE3)

    3. like almost everyone else, the online cheating, and the other online problems. i don't like the damage resist system as much in AoE3 either. i liked the various armors a unit had like in AoE, rather than 1 general resistance.

    1) Incredible depth and varied civilizations which create a long-lasting gaming experience.  Most civs tend to be usable.

    2) The ability to constantly tinker and try new things because of the depth of civs and units.  The historical backdrop also adds a really nice flavor.

    3) Even worse than the cheating (which should be the worst thing) is the lack of enforcement.  ESO evidently needs a confession signed in blood to ban anyone.  Cheaters get away with it and continue to cheat repeatedly.
