The only unbeatable DM strategy?
Hi, I'm relatively new to the asian dynasties; and I thought I would see what DM is like in T.A.D.
So I played my first DM game today and beat my opponent (I'm ranked Captain in DM for vanilla.) However, as the last buildings in his town were falling, some spies came out of his church and went stealth mode. I placed units all over the map so that I could see every possible inch of it. Of course, I can't see his spies to kll them... so I can't win unless he resigns. Then he says he's going to bed, and that I will have to resign eventually. I had dinner and two hours later the game was still on... so i resigned.
I was missing something, I hope? otherwise ES needs to address this in a patch. Has the addition of spies completely ruined DM for the asian dynasties, or was there something else that I could have done?
Yea it's like the most cowardly thing any player can do, but with this 'strategy', a conscript can beat a field marshall in DM.
Goodbye ES... all good things must come to an end.
p.s. mods: please try to convince microsoft to make Halo Wars for pc... making an RTS for xbox (instead of pc) is the stupiest thing I have ever heard of.

Re: Re:The only unbeatable DM strategy?
Yeh i was in a 3v3 DM game and my enemies did that.
They obviously planned it from the start as the teams were really unbalanced (in our favour).
And then just as we were killing them all three of them made about 50 spies and just hid in the corners of the map!
Could someone tell me how to insert a saved image i have so i can put in a screenshot i took?

Re: The only unbeatable DM strategy?
If you're playing on a map with medium sized islands (E.g. Honshu or Plymouth) Make sure you have a deck consisting of building and ship improvement cards. Also get a card that gives you a ship.
As soon as the game starts, build a church. Research Mercantlism, and get yourself the ship. Then get Stonemasons, and Advanced Dock. Put your explorer and settlers into the ship and sail to the island. Drop the settlers and explorer off, and have the settlers build at least 2 layers of walls around the edge of the island so the enemy cannot land troops. Use one settler to build a dock. Use the explorer to build a town center.
By now, the enemy will be destroying the church and/or town center you left behind. This will give you time to build ships out of your dock. Start with frigates, then monitors, then galleons, then caravels.
After the buildings you left behind are destroyed, the enemy will search the mainland, usually expecting to find hidden spies or settlers. Use this delay to build artillery. Build an artillery foundry and 5 houses. Use your empire's strongest artillery. Portuguese, Dutch, and Russians should train Mortars. French and Spanish should make Culverins. Ottomans should make Great Bombards from Factories, and British should make Rockets from Factories.
Finally, your defences are all ready. the enemy will now know the only possible place you could have gone to was the island. He will send ships to attack it, but will be attacked by your superior ships(Most Deathmatch decks don't have ship improvement cards, but focus on fast land unit training) and artillery.
Eventually, after replacing gradual ship losses, you will run low on wood. This is where Factories come in. You should also be able to find some trees on the island, so chop them if you have idle settlers.
If you're planning to do this on a team game, choose a map a very large island or multiple islands, like Honshu or Caribbean. This way, things won't be too crowded.
A must to team games is to let your ally know your plan. Nothing ruins this tactic like an ally replying with, "Taunt 2" and proceeding to spam Gendarmes. He will obviously be defeated, and a 2v1 is impossible to win at. Even if you have fully upgraded British ships, they will still be able to defeat you through numbers.

Fich:
Can't you just age imperial and research spies tech? that lets you see even stealthed units... Unless it doesn't work in deathmatch idk really dont play DM xD.
Nope, Imperial doesn't exist in DM.

Yes, please.
I *think* it's a monkey wearing lederhosen.
