solution: failed to join
hello guys im here to help :D since i was banned (from forums) i had quite a lot of free time on my hands and tried finding the one time solution to these failed to join games. and i did find it! firstly...the answer is simple: port forward. yeah im sure all of you already know this but ill just show u basically what is needed to join any game flawlessly! - www.portforward.com
- agecommunity FAQ
- download portcheck from here: http://www.portforward.com/help/portcheck.htm
- on portforward.com find your router and click on age of empires 3 after that it will give you the instructions
- BUT here is where you have to be careful: 2 things: while on portforward it shows only TCP protocol...if you read the FAQ you will see its also UDP *2300*. so forward the right ports with the right protocols (80, 2300 etc.)
- 2nd thing: make sure you know on what IP your opening the ports: for example i have my ps3 also hooked on to my router so at first i accidently port forwarded to my ps3 instead of pc. to make sure youve got the right IP address, use portcheck and on top it will tell you which ip address your pc is using. if your IP is dynamic (router assigns different one everytime, make sure everytime you turn on your pc/router you have the same IP address as last time. if its different repeat steps 1-5 for the new IP address
- USE PORTCHECK AND MAKE SURE ALL THE PORTS YOU "FORWARDED" ARE ACTUALLY OPEN...once its shows "port is open" you are free to play flawlessly
HOPE THIS HELPED...IT WORKED FOR ME XD
hope you like my sig :p

Re: solution: failed to join
just want to know..what is purpose of port forwarding?either than failed to join, can it prevent the game from the lagg or prevent isp auto reset our router?does it effect for those who have high speed internet connection?

Re: solution: failed to join
Kiyoshi:so what u are saying is that with a dynamic router this doesn't always work?
no...i am saying that because it is dynamic you should always check which ip address you are using and make sure uve port forwarded to the right IP address. i have a dynamic router but only when i connect my ps3 does my IP address change (i have only 2 things using my internet) so my ip doesnt change very often

well i dont know if it has anything to do with lag i guess thats just an internet speed/ computer performance factor. portforward = connectivity internet speed/ computer performance = smoothness of connectivity for example: if u have correctly port forwarded but have VERY slow internet you should connect to every game but when the game starts it would lag. the inverse is also true, not port forwarded = not connect but if u do manage to connect to even one game there will be no lag

Re: solution: failed to join
I noticed that in the last games I played I have no lag but I dont manage to connect to every game. I have a belkin router and its N+ speed which is very good speed. It might have something to do with the fact that it is wireless but it is not supposed to. any ip should be able to connect I think It would be rather stupid to draw a cable from my office to my livingroom just for age of empires. I want to get this sorted out but nobody has a decent thing that works so far

Re: solution: failed to join
Hello prashady. I have recently bought AoE III and I noticed I have the problem with " failed to join game" as well. So does my brother (different PC'S). We have wireless internet. I followed all the steps you stated, and actually more or less followed the steps from portforward.com It says all ports are open (with the check programm, both UDP and TCP). Now that I tried to connect to games, I still have the problem. It hasn't even lowered. Is there anything else to do about it? I doublechecked all the IP's i've had to enter.

Re: solution: failed to join
Well, I have restarted the game several times. Also, I have checked it yes, all were green / open on both upd and tcp. I might have used the wrong Ip though, might have failed on making the right one. My ISP didn't provide the DNS server I have.. Hopefully I will sort it out Anyway, as it works for many others, good job :) And thanks anyway.
