Hello!

I’m MrMilo, MS Playbalance Lead for Age of Empires Online. You might remember me from my days as a moderator here on AgeComm. Or perhaps, I played or talked to you on ESO on AoE3 or AoM or their expansions. I love Age games, particularly when it comes to PvP. I’m posting here because I know you guys and gals are dedicated and passionate about the series too.

If you left AoEO, or never picked it up, because there was a barrier to getting into the kind of PvP game you wanted to play, you should come back: the barrier is gone. We’ve just introduced a new way to PvP, Champion Mode, that puts all players on equal footing from the moment you make a civilization. There’s no need to get gear or level up in Champion Mode: all in-game techs in the tech tree are unlocked, and gear still makes your units look cool, but it doesn’t affect unit stats. This game is fun. The pacing is fast—it feels more like AoC than AoM or AoE3—and there is a hard counter system that rewards good micro. Also, because we patch the game most months, we'll continually be updating and fine tuning balance far more frequently than any Age title to date.

I enjoy the way this game is going, it seems like the developers have realised their mistakes and our now trying to get things going right. Gearless full tech pvp seems like a lot of fun.

I have one request, could you look into the slow down animation a bit ? When I played it felt like microing infantry was simply impossible because they were being slowed down so much that the time it took to reposition them was so big that the attacking possibilities and damage done by those would give a bigger advantage than perfect positioning..

So, the principle around which AoEO was designed, leveling up and gear, was as many predicted a bad idea. So it took until now to realize that and change it to make the game actually semi-competitive? good job guys..... good job....
(oh yeah and ofc it costs extra money also)

so true. As I said not microing guys engaged in a hand to hand combat is better than microing and trying to get a positional advantage.

Btw are the maps random ? Id love non random maps personally :D 

Guys I just wanted to say that I played one aoeo pvp game and the gameplay is simply astonishing. I think if I'd actually get good at this game it'd be a lot of fun (and if they'd actually move the minimap to a normal position... I might have to mod lol

thats not that big of a problem. It actually makes a lot of sense if you run with ur cav in pikemen u deserve to die. In aoe3 raiding was just too easy since u culd troll pike endlessly by just running away again.
