    How about the TC attack is changed to the effect of an organ gun in a home city shipment in age 2, it would help alot against rushes...

    Ok all the boosts that apply to anything past early age 2 will make them OP (cept for the beisterios). Currently Portugal advances with 14 settlers to age 2 right? this is really weak and would be bad for a non food based civ even. So you have have to let Ports get more vills without overboosting their boom. 3 or 2 vill cards IMO will be too much (I am scared as hell over ports tbh of an overboost) Just let portugal advance to age 2 SLIGHTLY faster. As in 20~ seconds faster. That way you could manage to get 15 vills out (an ok amount) and age almost a quickly as normal.

    If you think that this will make ports a rushing civ you would be wrong. If a super fast age up was done, then how many vills would the portugal guy have? 12, 13? not very good. Without an 8 xbow card they couldn't mass a RI army quickly. If they went hussar or muskets those food heavy units would compete with vill production in the early game.

     That still leaves a grace period for ports to be attacked and put off balance. Which in turn would reduce the boom power of the civ. Think of them as like early japan, vulnerable to rushes that come early.

    It is simple,   DO NOT USE PORTS IN NORMAL GAMES!!! The ports suck early on, just play a civ that is better at rushing. There is no point having this 12 page thread, the answer is simple, USE A DIFFERENT CIVILISATION. At nr40 they can be quite good but not against some civilisations.

    Dont you get the point of this thread?

    If no one uses ports, then whats the point of the civ in this game?

    I dont know how about you, but I would prefer that the portuguese civilization get boosted than that its completely eliminated from this game, also, its not 100% useless, you can have some strats with it and beat people, and use it as an excuse to play vs people that are a little bit lower in rank that you.

    I did not say the portuguese were completly useless, they can be quite good at nr games. Their free town centers with every age gives them a nice boom and their units have low hitpoints, but high attack.

    I dont think the portuguese were ever meant for rush games, but why they were put in normal age of empires 3 that does not have treaty?

     If there is going to be another patch, they should cheapen the portuguese units and make them train faster. maby even give them a free outpost wagon at every age as well...  That should make them a bit better.

    Ya, that would be a good idea, just if that was always supposed to be the portuguese bonus and would have been mentioned in manual, and in every website, but thats not ports bonus, and would just make it a weird civ that got their boost by the simplest solution possible...

    Thats why there is so many arguing about boosting ports, since there arent much intelligent solutions that can help really em.

    i like the gaurd crossbow idea, sounds sick, and maybe instead or another military shipment from church tech maybe get rid of the black rider and give them an enhanced buildings option, like maybe 25% more health in additon to thier imrpoved buildings card, or give them an age 3 infinite card like resources or maybe an infinite 6 cassadore/dragoon card

    New ideas, except for Teh yellow654's post, should go down the drain.

    All Ports needs it this:

    +1 starting food crate
