    the 6100 and 6300 are integrated graphics so i wouldn't think that either of them would run the game too well. maybe your 6100 has more memory allocated to it than his 6300.

    ankh or ex_pwn will probably know more :) [Edited on 8/2/2006]

    8 pixel pipelines or more is good, (the GeForce 6000 series tend to use 8, and they perform well), however you probably don't need to worry to much about it when choosing a graphics card.

    In terms of the 6100 vs 6300, the performance of each card will depend on many things:

  • the drivers you are using - these may produce a minor difference in framerates, for example you might notice a slight increase/decrease in your framerate when updating your graphics card drivers;
  • the variation of the card bought - some manufacturers will overclock the card they sell, so the 6100 might be a high spec version of the card while you might have a low-spec version of the 6300;
  • both the 6100 and 6300 rely heavily on your other hardware, as Hendrix mentioned, so the processor and amount of RAM in each computer will contribute largely to the performance. If your friend has a more powerful computer (forgetting the graphics card), this is probably the cause.

    Also, are you both using the same graphics settings for AoE III? This will impact the performance (though you probably guessed that already) :)

    hey anhk remember me? i am the guy who had the graphics card and laptops questions. well you still didnt answer my last question so here it is:

    Posted by: Ankh
    I'll have to go with EX_PWN's calssification here - the FX 5200 falls in the low-end category for AoE III. The Radeon 9000 falls off the scale slightly, so not as good as the FX 5200.

    Low End:

    (800x600 medium detail, 1024-768 minimum detail) - Set shaders to "LOW" or "MEDIUM"

    ATI 9200/9250 128/256MB !
    Nvidia FX 5200/5500 128/256MB !
    ATI X300/SE 128MB ^
    ...

    The game's performance relies mostly on the graphics card, however the great difference between the two processors will also have a large impact. The amount of RAM will also affect how the game plays. Probably best to just run the game on both and see which one works best.

    Upgrading your desktop may also be an option, as component prices drop all the time, so you can probably pick up a better processor/graphics card/RAM cheaply if you look at one of the online stores :)

    i recently upgraded my graphics card on my desktop... so i would rather not go out and try to find another one (the thing is i have one of those thin DELLs so you have to find certain parts that fit). so what should i try upgrading now? i have about 256 MB of RAM and my processor is actually 1.4 ghz. so which should i upgrade? to what should i upgrade it to? and how do i upgrade it?

    thanks

    well, what about the power supply questions? you need those to get a graphics card good and running
