Generally a "Cyclic Redundancy Check", or more commonly just "CRC", is a error detection mechanism that makes sure that the data you're trying to read from media such as hard disks, CDs and DVDs is actually correct. By "correct" we mean that the data you read is in fact the data that was written.

A quick internet search should give you a lot more detailed information.

As for borrowing a disk; sure thing. Just make sure and use your CD key during the installation.

    ES_Paragon,

My apologies for intruding on this thread. Just wanted to ask if you'd received a pm that I'd sent to you earlier on today. Could you please reply via pm if you have received it. Thanks.

    Ok thanks for the answer.

However as I feel only a miracle will make my Disc 2 work again I think I will borrow it from my friend.

But I'm confused when you tell me to use my CD key during the installation. Do I borrow all three CDs from him and type in my CD key? I thought that the installation wouldn't work if you had a CD's key wrong, which would be the case here as I use his Disc 1 for the installation.

Or do I only borrow his Disc 2 and use my own Disc 1 & 3?

Once again, I thank you a lot for helping people out on these forums.

I've looked over the internet: CRC does seem to be a difficult issue.

It seems that some data on my disc is definetely corrupted. I'm not sure why though as it doesn't look too bad.

So I guess I'll have to borrow my friend's disc(s).

    ES_Paragon:

What do you mean by that (see my earlier post)?

    Thanks.

OK, problem resolved, after I don't know how many hours glued to my screen...

So I borrowed my friend's AOEIII discs, and I used my disc 1 and his discs 2 & 3 (my disc 3 doesn't seem to work either) to install the game.

When I was at the end of the third disc, I got the 1305 error again with the art1 file (at that point I just felt like breaking my computer). I cleaned it a bit and copied the file to my hardrive. Miracle: no CRC error, it worked!

So I proceeded to his disc 2, which also worked. But when it came to my disc 1: omg, CRC again although it had worked 2 days before...

And then I remembered that I had not deleted the copied file from disc 1 in the age3install folder I had created on Sunday.

So I managed to install the game... Finally...

Many thanks  to you Paragon because without you I would have broken my computer by now seeing to what extent I was furious.

But don't the discs seem to be extremely fragile? When I look at the ones which won't install, there seems to be some circular scratches (they don't go accross the disc). Is it them which make the disc fail to install?

    Once again, many thanks. Smile

    Can't someone post the NON-spoiled Art4.bar?

I don't know anyone else (in RL) who plays the game

You can't post of the files from the age 3 installation CDs.

You can contact Microsoft Support for replacement disks if yours are missing or broken.
