Re: The Modding Thread.
The presence of a civs.xml file in your data folder, Can be most useful with moding your civ..You can change a lot of things in it..To give your game a more personal touch..
To Add a starting unit into your civ.
If you read my first post , about the civs file, in your data folder..You probably already have one.
Just type in the units name in between the tags..As follows
<starting unit>Your unit's name</starting unit>
You can add / change a boatload of things..
Just be carefull, and pay attention to how everything else has been typed in.
Enjoy!

Re: The Modding Thread.
Here's another little how to.
How to make a unit build a fort.
This tech is refered to as "fort frontier"..You need to type the following into the techtreex..(For war chiefs)..Make sure to back up your original techtreex, in a safe place before adding anything..Just in case you want to revert back to original..
Open your techtreex..It is found in the data folder..You'll need to scroll down to your civs fortress age..Type in the following..
<Effect Type='Data' amount='1.00' subtype='AddTrain' Unittype='Fortfrontier' relativity='assign'>
<Target type='ProtoUnit'>Whatever unit</target></effect>
<Effect type='data' amount='3.00' subtype='BuildLimit' relativity='Assign'>
Target type='ProtoUnit'>FortFrontier</Target></effect>
With what I've typed..I may have missed a capitol letter or a space in between words or symbols..Just look at the data already in the file and just make sure you do the same..
enjoy!

Doesn't seem to be any new entries in here..
Surely there's got to be more interest in this subject than this?

Re: The Modding Thread.
from wat ive read, i take it u cannot creat an entirely new type of unit, only alter its atrributes such as texture and abilites?
I may start modding soon, but im currently learning animation and moddeling, plus a little c++, so i really dont feel like getting another headache

E.S.
Now that modding has been added to this category..We really appreciate it and much thanks..If possible.. If it would not be to much trouble..Could we please have this thread pinned?.It's a fine effort by Northern_lord..He really put a lot of time into it..It should help out a lot of people down the line.
It would be most appreciated.
Thank you!

Re: The Modding Thread.
Some guys have asked..
How can I change the name of my explorer?
This one is easy to mod..
1..Go into your document and settings / my documents / my games / age of empires 3 / savegame folder..
2..Right click on the homecity file and remove the read only in the properties.
3..Right click and open your homecity file in notepad
4..In the line, <heroname> Type the name you want </ heroname>
5..Save changes..
You're done!
