First civ i played with was the Russians, I think i liked having infantry and villages train in large batches. This was when i was a complete noob playing vanilla, then i had spells with the French and Dutch playing no rush games before buying TWC AND TAD

I started playing as the Ottos. When I first got the game, I was looking through all the special traits of the different civs and came to Ottos.

"Town Centers produce settlers for free. Can upgrade settler production at Mosques."

So I thought, "paying resources for settlers is for chumps".

Know what's weird? Day by day, nothing seems to change. But pretty soon, everything's different.

Actually, they are one of the hardest civs to play, they are the only Euro civ with a completely conventional economy, cant get a good HI counter until Age3, and were nerfed massively in the last patch.

    Surprise

But they were so easy the first time I tried them...

You nut, they're one of the hardest. I rank them with China, Ports, and perhaps France (haven't given frenchies a whirl for some time).

BS, ports, french, and germany also have Xbows. Their econ isn't entirely convetional, if you count faster shipments (faster res shipments). They weren't nerfed massively, but they are simply much harder to play correctly.
