Re: A Call to Arms Mehn!!!!
samirtobias:There have been many forums dedicated to an Aoe4 on this site. We ALL share this desire and see the potential. I ask you to recall the famous scene in Robin Hood (the 1990 version not the recent gay remake) when the Hero says in response to the fear from the hoard “What is it that we need that the forest cannot provide?”
In other words – Man up! Be positive! Let’s take some ownership here! We have what we need right here (In-house talent/resources)
I KNOW that with Musketeer, Metis, and a few others we HAVE the technical ability to take the existing AOE3 software engine, make the changes we want to it in terms of reprogramming and make Age of Empires Four (AOEF) properly – the way it SHOULD be made!! For forums administrator I guess we could let Jerom handle it. It would involve incorporating the changes that have been proposed on several threads here, and some other balancing tweaks such as changing the melee damage area for cuirassier to maybe somewhere between 1.5-1.8 instead of 2.0 and perhaps allowing the Explorer and maybe even his dog to ‘merge’ with the Fort in late game combining the hitpoints and damage of both for a very uber-building like the AOE equivalent of the deathstar. Also the new ability to construct ‘bridges’ across water … which has been widely recognized is a miss in AOE3.
Would you guys be willing to help with this? For starting money we could go with donations from all interested –and then go public with shares. We would need some higher ranks to test civ’s for balancing but I and GS could help with that. Lets get this puppy up and running and get it back on WCG for 2013!! Is this timeline too aggressive? Let me know so I can adjust schedule/resources if required. Willie—can I count you in? I also need Irja to work on new taunts.
go ahead you will get put in jail .. what gay remake???

This gay remake of the original movie, called Robin Hood: Men in Tights here is the rap song for the movie, Robin Hood: Men in Tights. This song features a black rapper in robin hood tights and white sunglasses to top it off. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVVvxfLoPFU

Re: A Call to Arms Mehn!!!!
Okay. Here's my.. here's my problem with this: 1) To create a BASIC graphics engine would take years. Also, if you want to buy one to make a new game it's going to cost you about 100 dollars a year for a tiny one (if you don't have time to make one). 2) Market- There's simply no market to make an AoE4 from AoE3. You can't advertise because the second you place an ad with the Age of Empires logo on it, MS will sue you. And it will be costly. MS is a corporate giant that wants money. They will sue the *** out of you. For profit. And not enough people play AoE anymore anyway to have a viable market anyway. Best hope is the spam emails to RE letting them know that we want them to buy MS out of the AoE franchise (since all MS will respond to is money) and make an AoE4 with a kick ass graphics engine and mass advertising. They'd need investors. If you really want to make a difference, if RE ever buys MS out of the AoE contract (which would be very expensive to begin with), invest in RE. Send them cash in the mail, I'm sure they wouldn't sent it back. Especially if they're going to be all David and Goliath against Microsoft.

samirtobias:Musk -- I am willing to give you control of the forums to be a mod if that's what you want ... you can supervise Jerom.
But this isn't stupid. This is what we've all been talking about -- it came to me and MS isn't going to care about legally coming after us -- we'll just use our screen names instead of real names on all of our documents so we're protected -- so forget about that.
Did you want to impose a limit on the length a bridge can extend into water?
Forget the bridges if you want but the cuirrassier has to be nerfed
it sounds by the way youre talking about this that you want it to be a half patch and just call it a new game? by nerfing a unit it comes close to a patch instead

cam44:A half patch in a new box with a #2 at the end is what SC2 is and Blizzard has done just fine with sales
its different for that game considering that besides being futuristic, time period doesnt matter much. in aoe time period is huge so they couldnt get away with that

Re: A Call to Arms Mehn!!!!
musketeer925:@Metis:
I'd have to say Civilization IV would be more of that sort of style than Civilization V.
You are right, I was thinking more of Civ IV when I said this -- there were some amazing works modded from Civ IV -- Fall from Heaven was a whole new game.
I think that platforms such as Steam... are allowing for more indie developers... Though that certainly doesn't apply to an RTS -- RTS games are not made easily.
I was thinking more about large RTS games like AOE 3 but I agree for smaller games -- there are lots of fun small-developer games out there that you can play if you have a few minutes on a break.
Also, I wouldn't say that the mods are dead -- WotTA, NE, and KnB are all very alive. The WotTA forum, I would not hesitate to say, gets as much, if not more, traffic than AgeComm. The WotTA team is still hard at work in attempt to push out our Delta version.
I guess that I was going by what I saw of the mods played online. I loaded the Napoleonic Era mod recently and would have probably played it more if I could have found anyone with it online. It might refresh the long-time player community quite a bit if one of these mods could be easily played online then switched back to the original version without a complete uninstall and reinstall of the game.

If you copy your AoE3 Program Files folder, you don't have to reinstall the game. It's quite simple actually-- you name one folder "AoE3-NE" And the other one "Age of Empires 3" and when you want to play NE, you change the actual game to "AoE3normal" and Change "AoE3NE" to "Age of Empires 3".
You should have told me you installed it! We could have played :DD
