And when I clicked cancel and left it .. I got error message 1603 . Any idea what they both mean?
Thanks
All of your errors are related and combine to suggest a bad CD.
Before calling MS to request a new CD you might go to a local music or video shop and pick up a CD polishing kit and try it. Those kits are handy to get rented, and usually scratched up, DVDs to play.
Here's the Microsoft link again. It has a couple of additional steps you might try such as creating a new user account and trying to install the game on it or trying to install the game on a different drive.

Ok thanks. I was starting to worry.
Would steam be the same as ordering off MS ?
Would they replace a disk from 2006
Several people here on the forums have called Microsoft and received replacement game disks when theirs were defective or damaged.
In order to get a replacement you will need to prove that you actually possess an original media copy of the game so you will need to have the have the disks in hand when you call, it wouldn't hurt if you had the original game box with the Microsoft sticker on it either. Some people have said that they were shipped replacements free but the cost might vary from country to country.
