How do you get the AI to attack? They devlop just fine and even create a huge army, but won't attack. Is there a way to set up a timed trigger to make them attack every 10 minutes or so?

i'm pretty sure i've seen you answer that question about 40 times or something. at least you're being cool about it. sometimes sometowns i give the ai starts to don't do as much as others but if you're having real problems just make like 5 ai start locations around each town and they'll more than likely do something. sometimes u can get ideas how to do things like that by having the computer make u a custom map in the map editor and it shows all of the ai starts that they create for the natives to run around with. Is there any possible way to get creatures to move around on the maps or if you shoot at a "herd" of buffalo or a herd of anything will they all run? that's my problem. i can't get my wild life to do wild-life types of things. i have birds in one spot not going anywhere, but their wings are flapping. it's hard to take my own scenarios seriously when i see hundreds of birds just positioned at a fixed spot in the sky. maybe i don't know how to use the triggers. or maybe i need to learn the notepad way to do it, but i barely have the time to even look into that. i only have like 2 free hours a day to play. it would take me forever to learn it in code. just wondering if you could guide me in what to do. thank you [Edited on 1/28/2006]

Thats not what I'm talking about. I have the ai set up just fine. It's their attacking that I'm having problems with. I want to know if there is a way to force them to attack the enemy with a timed trigger, because otherwise they just collect resources and create an army for defence.

When I grouped a herd they came to life and ran around, but I couldn't get it to work with birds. [Edited on 1/28/2006]

    Important:
I need my fellow forumers to help run this thread. Due to more work being assigned to me from various places, I have less and less time to help answer the questions. I can still come here occasionally and answer some questions, but not always. Please answer any questions that you can! It will be greatly appreciated! Smile

    Answers to various questions:

  • Certain AI do certain things. To tell you the truth, some of the numbered AI work, but only to a certain degree. The enemy with an AI needs to know where your TC is, where your Explorer is, and where your main settlement is, in order to function aggresively (in most cases).
  • I'm not sure if you can "scan" Custom Maps and/or Scenarios before "opening" (downloading) them. They shouldn't cause you any trouble, but if they do, you can always go to your AoE3 folder under Scenarios, and delete them.
  • The Herd Editor is used to incorporate life (activate) to groups of land animals (not flying creatures).
  • Make sure you check the Wiki on issues such as these.

^^^These are ALL the questions I will answer now. PLEASE help each other out.^^^

How do I post in this thread without using reply? When I click on new post it seems to start a new thread.

    Anyway, here's my original post.

I'm new, so please be patient with me.

First, after reading posts in another thread, I'm wondering what the difference is between a custom map and scenario. I have a basic understanding, but would like to know more.

I am basically interested in creating custom maps, starting with seed maps, which I was able to do easily in earlier versions of AOE through the scenario editor. I know they may have been considered scenarios, technically, but I never added any triggers, etc.

I can't seem to figure out how to get a seed map without starting from scratch.

I would also love someone to point me to the tutorial, because eventually I'd like to learn to put together a full-blown scenario with bells and whistles.

Forgive me if this is off topic, but I also want to be able to change my nationality in a skirmish, but it seems like I can only choose the one that I have a home city for and have already played through campaigns.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    @Wareagle
    1. Create a trigger (e.g. Trigger_0)
    2. Set it to High Priority, and Run Immedietely.
    3. Keep the default Condition: "Always."
    4. Create the Effect: "Player Set Age."
    5. Insert the appropriate number for age-startup (e.g. 0=age 1, 1=age 2, etc.)
    6. Set player. [Edited on 1/29/2006]

I made a map in the scenerio editor, but I can't figure out how to make it playable online. It doesn't appear in the custom map drop down list when I'm hosting a game. Does the map need to be in a different folder? Is it even possible?

Custom Scenarios cannot be played online as of right now. Custom Maps can be played. You need to know how to script. Read Monty's Guide. There's a link in the previous page.

Thanks man it works. Thats kinda complicated tho.... I wish they would have just made it so you could change it in player data, oh well. Thanks for your help.
