I must say when I first saw the fan patch I supported it with all my life, but now I can see that it won't go down the right path.

Patch 1.0: Nerfed Japan and India. Made minor changes to everything else. Now Iro 4 min rush=auto win.

Patch 1.1: Nerfed Iro and Aztec, Upped Ottos and Ports. Now Spahi FF is OP...

Patch 1.2: Spahi nerfed. Now Port FF is OP...

Patch 1.3: Upped Iro and Aztec. Now Ports, Iro and Aztec are like Japan, India and Germany...

Patch 1.4: Nerfed Iro, Aztec and Ports slightly to be somewhat level with Ottos. Since Spahi are no longer OP Xbows become OP...

Patch 9.7: Settlers become OP. All buildings (including houses) are given x50 bonus vs settlers

    wait..they already made those patches??

no, he thinks it is funny to exaggerate how things "could" look like in the future

I would get it, it is just that when ever I am on, I only see like 2 CRC mismatch games, all hosted by Captains ++++

Idk, maybe if more people get it, I will join in.

to low ranked players balance doesnt really matter that much anyways so they dont really have a reason to get the fanpatch.  but this next fan patch they have all new maps, bugs fixed, and balanced civs. if anyone doesnt get the patch its on them for ruining everything

Please make the Fan Patch Mandatory!!!!

It really is the only way to keep the community together and to ensure balance in the game.

I know for whatever reason you can't do this right now, but surely there must be a way.

Someone needs to buy the rights to do this....I dont really understand if ES no longer monitors the game why do they care if the FP is mandatory or not....  Maybe there is someway ES could be convinced to make FP download mandatory as a last good gesture to the community...

The reason I do not play FP is because it is hard to get a game.  A mandatory Patch would solve this problem.

Unless the FP is made mandatory imo the situation is hopless.

Make it popular by playing on it anyway. It's not that hard to find a game.

If you want to play a "perfectly balanced" game then make sure everyone is playing the same civ at the same HC level, with the same cards.

The game was never meant to be balanced. Advanced players should be playing "weaker" civs, developing and using advanced strategies and tactics that allow them to win despite of their civ’s weaknesses.

However, what you mainly see is the highest-"ranked" individuals laming OP civs (e.g., "Japan and France) or setting up games on maps and with "rules" that make other civs OP (e.g., NWS on Carolina with Dutch).

The game will never be balanced as long as the rank system is in place, even though rank and ladders are for the most part meaningless. Just try, however, to fill an unrated game, especially one where the higher ranks are handicapped to make things fair. Set up a 3v3 announcing this and wait for it to fill – Hell will freeze over first.

rts games arent meant to be balanced?!>!?!  i guess thats why starcraft failed it was too balanced.... sigh

the game is meant to have civ balance which means all the civs can be used at a equal skill lvl and one not having a massive advantage.

higher ranked people dont want to play lower ranked people with a handicap because it isnt fun for them, they want to play against other high ranked people and have a good game. i have no idea where your argument is coming from

all rts games are and will be as close to balanced as possible. its the only logical solution

think of a game thats ment to be imbalanced, but the pro's use worse civs to make it fair, thats just stupid.

imagine you are a pro street biker, but when competeing with an ameteur in the tour de france, he is given a motorcycle as a handi cap. it wouldn't be fun for either of them! because the other guy would need to have almost no skill to take a professional to the cleaners, it would be like cheating. and for you, losing to an ameteur due to an obviously riged game, would probably end in a homocide.

all games have to be balanced for both sides in order to be fun. the only reason aoe3 needs so many patches is because there are about 70 some odd combinations of diffrent civs to fight each other. and in order for the game to still be fun, one side always has to be about as competeitive as the other side.

Japan? France? Neither are OP, cept for NR, but a balanced Sup balances NR..

You know it's funny you think all high ranked players are lamers, I can think of quite a few who use underdog strats, Ports, China (Mayh3m, Damint etc), Natives etc.

Ofc the game can be balanced, Dutch used to be OP now they're sub-average. If you find the middle ground for each civ, you balance the game, even though some civs have an advantage over others. That's as far as imbalance will go in this game, and even then it can be somewhat moderated by proper balance.

I really dont understand why so much emphasis is placed on OP civs. In any case, how can a true balance ever be achieved?.

Once a player is very familiar with a civ of their preference, to which theres many to choose from, they discover the best ways of countering attacks from any civ, and be able to win.

Higher ranked players are good because they know how to control their units, micro and macro well, and are good at soooo many other factors no matter which civ they play. But if they enjoy playing civs that are supposedly OP...why shouldnt they. Its so lame going in to games with a civ you want to play only to be told by host to change civ because the civ u want to play is OP.
