My name is Jordan and my myspace is Jordan Barrett (as the real name)

There are some pics on there of my computer's motherboard containing 3 PCI slots and a blank spot where a AGP slot was supposed to be. Can I add an AGP slot to that blank space to have 3 PCI and 1 AGP slot, or what CAN I DO WITH THAT BLANK SPOT.

The only decent graphics card that I see that runs on a PCI slot is the nVidia GeForce FX 5200 (256 mb Video memory). Even that one still is good.

If I should have to get an AGP or a PCI express slot, then I need a new motherboard. If I need a new motherboard, what should I get for a Intel Celeron D 2.66 Ghz computer. I have 1 GB of RAM, 22 GB of basic space, and a good monitor, sound card, and speakers/mouse/keyboard.

I have decided to get a brand new Processor. Probably a basic IBM/lenovo processor with a great GeForce 7 Series graphics card or better in it. I am looking at newegg.com, cdw.com, and lenovo.com, anybody have any recommendations for a new processor running about $500. I do not want to have to get a new motherboard and then get it installed for $400 total, why not just get an all new CPU? right?

I can get 10% off on lenovo because a neighbor works there. Any recommendations on good gaming CPU's with out going the multi thousand dollar pro gaming route?

    Thanks, any helped appreciated.

if you get a new processor then most of the time you will new a new motherboard aswell, to make things a lot less complicated it would be best just to get a new computer.

    Thats what I did.

$745 -- (after rebates and after me selling the printer that comes with it for 65$ on ebay.com)

    HP Pavillion a1550e (customizable online)
    AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ 2.2Ghz processor
80 GB Hard Drive (no need to get more if all i am doing is playing 5 games at a time)
    1 GB 667mhz DDR2 RAM
    Wireless Keyboard/Mouse/Speakers
    2000mhz Front Side Bus (FSB)
Power supply -- only 300 watts though...
    19" Flat Panel LCD Monitor
    Integrated Nvidia GeForce 6100

    1 PCI - Express 16x slot
    1 PCI - Express 1x slot
    2 PCI slots

1 Rosewill 550 watt powersupply with blue LED and 2 ball bearing fans -- 64$ newegg.com (My 6600GT only requires 300 watts but just incase)

    1 Nvidia GeForce 6600GT $72 newegg.com (after rebate)

Total-- $745 + $136 accessories = ~$900 and should run any game on hight to ultra high for 3 years.

6600 cant run new gen games like aoe3 and fear etc all on high. if you want to play em all on high cards like 7800 and above for Nvidia might be useful. My X850 XT PE Ovrclocked can play anygame thrown at it all onhigh. unforunatly it dosnt support pixelshader 3.0 so no bloom effect for aoeIII :(. I hope they make a patch so i can get a bloom with X850 XT PE. its a great card.

Thanks, but with my new computer and only 300 watts power, (i dont have the other powersupply yet), I dont want to go overboard on the price.

I have seen a few cards on newegg.com, and computer websites.

Lots of people recommend the 6600GT, or a 6600, or a 6800 GT or not.

The 6800 are the most expensive though. I am trying to keep the price of the GPU under $135...which rules out those 7900 adn 7800 Nvidia cards....which I dont need...

People say to get a 7 series GeForce, but why is the 7300 GS and 7300 LE not any good.

So people say I should get either a 6 series or a 7 series...

    6 series -- 6600, 6600 GT, 6800, 6800 GT

7 series (way to much for me) -- 7800, 7900..... (not going to buy)

SO out of those 4 6 series cards, which is the best for me that supports a PCI -ex 16x slot, and 300 watts, and pixel shaders and bloom effect and all of that.

Also, what is more important if I get a 6600 GT....128 mb vs. 256 mb, or GDDR2 vs. GDDR3

    newegg.com sells a 6600GT 128 GDDR3 and a 6600GT 256 GDDR2

the 6600gt is the best price performance card. gddr3 is slightly faster memory than gddr2 however there is not much difference. if you want to play the game in a high resolution then get the 256mb card if not then the 128mb will do just fine.

the 6800xt performs pretty much exactly the same as the 6600gt and is not worth paying extra for.

the 6600gt is available in pci-e, will work on a 300w power supply, high shaders and shadows should work fine and you can use the bloom effect. [Edited on 8/9/2006]
