i didn't play much aoe2 online but i remember i that i would always forget to quee up more farms and then my food would drop.  i remember byzantines being overpowered.  i also remember how you just had to kill the king to win so you could always just use trebuchets and knock down the castle with the king in it, run forward 10 or so calvary guys and kill the king without ever really having to fight their army.  i like the card system though, it adds more variety and strategy into the game.  i also remember those cannon ships could just kill anything.

o yeah, i would say aoe 3 is my fav.  is it worth getting all the expansions for it though?  i kinda want TAD but don't really care much for TWC.

Get both, or don't get them at all. Few people have TAD without having TWC.

Because he doesn't like TWC? My point is that most people have both expansions, so it's better finding games online then.

AOE 3 plain vanilla is good enough for me.

Age 2 is the best in terms of the variety offered and gameplay though nothing can beat Age 3 in graphics. ( Age 1 could have been the best had it not been for its ancient graphics)

That's because they're halfway soldiers. There's no female soldiers in AOE3 though, but in AOE2 you have Jean D'arc plus those f*king wolf women or whatever.

AOE2 is my fav. I still play it, can't stand AOE3 at all....and the byzantines are good against alot of other civs. but the sarceans (sp?) kick there butt unit-to-unit.

And as far as the king thing...you must play the campain? in skirmish you set it to "Conquest" and its last man standing type of thing....no king involved.

    ---------------------------------------------------------

The couple of changes I would make to AOE2...

Castles...Make them stronger, BUT make it so the only way you get a castle is by leveling a town center through the ages to get it (age1 > age 2 > age 3 > age 4 > Castle)

(reson for that being that the castles turned into large towers that you can build....I mean the comp will build 5-15 castles through out a game...it should be harder....

But that being said also make trebusheas (I know spelling is bad) WAY less range, or increase the castle range.

Also make it so with the swamps/marhslands you can't cross seige units, and cavalry is slowed say 40% while crossing. Make it a little more realistic...just the fact that a 1ton seige unit can move accross a swamp, and set up/fire from a swamp is just kinda unrealisitc.

They are all good in their time-reference..

AoE 3 is just the logical answer to the games before., which must be better.

I think Age of Mythology still is the better one in gameplay because of the engine, which doesn't make warships lag and because of its graphics and atmosphere...

AoE 3 is more addictive because of the whole XP-system, which makes a lot of difference in RTS

Of the entire series,AOE 3 is the only game in which the game that you played last has some bearing upon the next one.

    Hi everyone,

Age of empires I to III has been one complete sequel: We start in stone age ;evolve to iron age; then the dark and feudral ages come; finally we battle in the era of cannons.

All versions have something unique about them. I've always wished for a strategy game that would run from stone age to imperial in one single version! Overall i liked aoe III the most because it focuses more on military aspect of history. You don't need build mining camps and granaries all over the place.........There is much more diversity in units, training 5 soldiers at once speeds up the game, microing units is all the more important here and ofcourse, graphics are better.

but i do play aoe I and II at times, its always fun.Smile
