Ichigo1uk: Cold_Steel:
ww1 campaign
ww2 campaign
Korea Capaign
Vietnam Campaign
Gulf War Campaign
allow each campaign to be fought from both sides
Not only are they campaigns but also there ages. I was thinking of this as well. Gulf war I'm not sure of yet but the others were what i was thinking.
It's like 1910 > 1940 > 1950 > 1960-70 > 1990
Less then a hundred years but the most interesting hundred yet!
I don't really know how they should structure it, but the 20th century should'nt be covered in a single game. Greater attention should be given to each world war, even if that warrants separate games for each. I really don't think Korea, Vietnam, and Gulf War campaigns have anything to do with empires, nor do I think they would be popular for this series.

Re: Age 4- World Wars
The intent of AoE is not to recreate history. A lot of you guys that are advocating for a WWI-WWII themed game are missing the point of the series. The idea is to showcase the biggest nations/empires of an era and have "what-if" battles against each other. AoE III is a fun game because it's not limited to reality. You have the option to put units spanning 400 years all on the same battlefield, and it still makes for an enjoyable experience. If in AoE IV, German stables can spawn Uhlans, then be upgraded to airfields that spawn Fokkers and Zepplins, the game will still be fun to play.
There are plenty of WWII RTS games on the market and I wouldn't want AoE to turn into just another one of those. Plus, I would not want to play a game were I was forced to glorify things like fascism, communism, or controversial events like Vietnam or Iraq (like some want to see). The developers had the right idea in AoE III by keeping the notion of slavery out of the game, so if the next game in the series was the early 20th century, I wouldn't want to play as the Russians and have my troops butcher my citizens, or the Germans build concentration camps. Like I said earlier, if you want an experience that is more historically accurate, there are other games out there. Regarding time periods, people still argue about which eras were exactly covered in AoEIII, so in the next game we don't have to include definitive events, like the stock market crash or the attack on Pearl Harbor. Just make the eras in broad terms, like have cavalry stables evolve into airfields, and the aircraft from rickety biplanes and zeppelins to metal-framed monoplanes and bombers. Same with artillery, horse-drawn cannon can make way for fixed artillery and crude tanks, which evolve into more modern machines. Since the onset of WWII made all the technology of the 20's and 30's obsolete, I'd like to see these overlooked machines play a larger role in the game than they did in actual history. By keeping the eras broad, this will set up the fifth installment perfectly. You would start out with the cumbersome technology of the late 40's and early 50's, jets, rudimentary computers, etc. and evolve through the space race into the highly efficient weaponry of today, then beyond.
The idea is to have fun and not be burdened by realism. If you want to see history, read a book...don't expect to find it by playing a computer game.

Re: Age 4- World Wars
Firstly Stables would evolve into a tank factory not a airbase =.= Plus there not gonna put death camps and labor camps and things that where were gruesome are they, and if you thought they would then damn what the hell were you thinking. They'd proberly have Kaiser Wilhelm rule Germany and the Tsar rule Russia, and not Hitler or Stalin although it's for 12 + so it wouldn't matter if it did have Hitler or Stalin in it. We've seen the plan Ensemble Studios have for this game. WW2 will be the final age in this, or at least the modern age will. And AoE V will be in this age to the space and beyond. Also instead of revolution, you could get new leader leading to a age 5. So Britain, you'd get Winston Churchill and he increases units HP and Naval units. Germany you get Hitler, increased defenses and Unit Attack increased, Russia, Stalin and you can make unit in bulk and for cheaper (cause there weaker anyways) draw back are proberly you gather 5-10% slower
And so on And so on

Ichigo1uk:Firstly Stables would evolve into a tank factory not a airbase =.=
Why, since tanks are basically mobile artillery. At the start of WWI, most countries built their air forces from the principles of cavalry tactics. Many of the first airmen were drawn from the ranks of existing cavalry units.
Ichigo1uk:Plus there not gonna put death camps and labor camps and things that where were gruesome are they, and if you thought they would then damn what the hell were you thinking.
True, but how can you effectively portray WWII without them? I'm saying that you can have battles with equipment of the era, but it doesn't have to mimic WWII. Ichigo1uk:They'd proberly have Kaiser Wilhelm rule Germany and the Tsar rule Russia, and not Hitler or Stalin although it's for 12 + so it wouldn't matter if it did have Hitler or Stalin in it. There is nothing wrong with the Kaiser or the Czar but if Hitler or Stalin was the leader, it would be hard to argue that your home city is a benevolent utopia worthy of rule.
I would also like to see the option to create an entirely new civ based on some templates. There are a lot of "what if" moments in history that didn't pan out the way they were planned, it would be fun to recreate those and bring them to life.

The fundamental flaw of the WW2 Age of Empires game is that there are no specific ages, and no major empires (or not enough). So ditch the idea, and take the same time period as AoE3 and set it in Europe, where the empires are fighting with each other there. Maybe this could be an expansion pack?
