    Subject: Game will not start

    Hi All,

    I bought and installed this game several weeks ago (installed TWC also). But starting the game (I tried all method from  shortcuts to starting from the command line) does nothing.

     
    I have tried all the suggestions from some of the other posts including clean boot, no sound, no cinematics, uninstall re-install, drivers etc. I don't have CA security or any other similar programs. I only have a AV (McAfee) and already tried disabling it. Please note that this thread discusses a similar issue but does not work for me as I don't have any CA software installed.

     
    I called MS Tech Support and paid them to get it fixed and even they can't figure out what the problem is after spending more than 6 hours on it through remote access. While I'm still waiting for them to get back to  me with more options, I was wondering if anyone knows how to fix this problem or has more suggestions.

    It sound like you are a lost cause. Did it ever run? Does Vanilla run but not TWC? Does TWC run but not Vanilla? Does you computer meet minimum specs (including Direct X capability)? Have you manually edited any files or installed any mods (not from ESO/MS)? Are the graphics settings too high for your PC?

    I sure hope that MS tech has already addressed these issues or he should ask for his money back =) I do not think that any one here will be of much help since we are not at his house looking over his computer, and MS tech people are!!!

    I hate to say this, but it seems like you're doomed, mate. Like Diggo asked, did it ever run, or did it just mess up recently?

    And like Rico said......if MS tech support can't figure it, and they have remote access to your PC, I seriously doubt anyone here can help you Sad

    No, the game never ran. TWC, Vanilla nothing runs. I double click nothing happens.

     Well, thanks for all your replies anyway. Guess I have to just return the game or buy a new computer. If it doesn't run on the new computer either I will have to return both ;)

    I would return the game first, maybe its just a bad disk. That would suck if you spent all that money on a new computer to find out that the disk was bad the whole time.

    You called MS support? Why would you call Microsoft Support if you're playing Age of Empires? Are you out of your mind?!

    Why wouldnt he, you know MS helped ES make this game, thats why there name pops up in a fancy fashion when the game boots up.

    You are a noob, Micro$oft makes everything (and Rico the Great is 100% correct)! You must also remember Micro$oft made AOE1 alone (I think).

    Well, the microsoft tech downloaded the nocd patch and the game runs fine with the nocd patch. But I can't play online. Also, I play warcarft which always used to ask me to insert the CD and it doesn't anymore. This means for some reason the cd check is failing at startup. And I've uninstalled all security software etc. The only CD burning program I have is Nero. I think some program that had been there in the past has messed up the registry. Does anyone here know what part of the registry could have caused this?
