You all telling me - 2 + years later and this problem STILL is not fixed??  Surprise
Yep, I think ES is too busy with Halo to properly focus on other games. They should hand it all over to Micro$oft and the new TAD company: Big Huge Games.

Yeah, cuz it's THAT easy to fix ANY problem in the world [8-)]

Try doing doin the second suggestion about port forwarding in the megathread.  I did that and the problem i had with it was that I needed a password for the modem.  It turned out to be "admin" with no username and i got where i needed.  Now i can join most games without problems.

    1. turning off ur firewall will not help.

    2. Vista has so many problems when it comes to gaming, especially online, and Vista is so complex, and "safe", that it is so hard to get into files and find the files needed to make aoe work with ease online.

AOE is the only game I've ever had trouble with online though. Every other online game works and connects fine. So apparently the game was designed bad.

its alot harder than disabling a mere firewall....i had to find the exact file that was used as a cookie to make AOE compatable online, and then I had to find in which of the settings the file was activated/deactivated!

    To all Vista users:

I didn't see a reply on how to do this on a Vista Computer.

    Here's how:

    1: Control Panel

    2: Administrative Tools

3: Windows Firewall with Advanced Security

    4: Inbound Rules

5: Age of Empires III (doesn't matter which version) might be on there, if so proceed to step 13 If not, go to step 6

6: On the right hand side of the screen, click New Rule

7: Make sure the Program bubble is filled in (should already be, it's the default bubble) and click Next

8: Click 'This Program Path'. Default path is %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Games\Age of Empires III\age3.exe (or whatever version your using, I used Vanilla as an example. TWC is age3x, not sure what TAD is) and click next

9: Default option is 'Allow this connection' make sure its set to that and click next

10: Make sure all boxes are checked, click next

11: Name the rule (I named it as Age of Empires III)

    12: Finish

13: Go to Outbound Rules on the left hand side (If Age of Empires III is already in this list, you're done)

14: Proceed to follow steps 6-12

    15: You're done

Edit: Three hours of being on hold with Microsoft got me the answer to this.
