    I've noticed a definite bump in the numbers online, probably attributable to the $10 sale

    These are pretty good numbers for a Tuesday: 

    AOE 1445, TWC 74, TAD 919, Total 2438,Tue Jul 17 2012 15:11:00

    It's still a couple of hours earlier than peak but today seems to be shaping up nicely too: 

    1189,50,887,2126,Wed Jul 18 2012 13:41:00

    There has been a slight rise, although it is fairly slight. (It's actually a bit higher from yesterday than it shows since the averages include maintenance, but you can get a brief idea of the trend)

    Now, I have seen about a 1000% increase in newly registered accounts, as well as a significant boost in # of unique accounts logged in each day.  So yes the steam sale does have a small residual effect on boosting the online community. 

    The above is a screenshot from a pivot table I maintain from population data.  Its pretty handy for comparing things like year over year or month over month changes in addition to weekly and even hourly trends.
