    Redclaw:

I have a trigger (in my scenario) upfront that reads what the players difficaulty level is then adjusts the game accordingly.  What I am not seeing is where do I set the difficulty as a player in the regular game.  I can't find any menu item that lets me pick the difficulty of a custom scenario before I play that level.  So I have downloaded this nice new scenario, I put it the the game folder and before I start to play it how do I pick what difficulty level I want to play it in?

When I test out my scenario in "Test Mode" in the scenario dev enivronment then I can pick the difficulty every time...works like a champ....but when I am in realtime mode as a player in the regular game mode then where the hell do I pick the difficulty I want to play?

    If I'm understanding your question??

The only way to do this is play the scenerio in the editor..By clicking on the "playtest"..An options box comes up../play as / difficulty..Don't play it through the game's main screen..Or..You need to make the scenerio in all difficult versions and include them in your download..Then the player can select the version scenerio they wish to start with.

You posted that you're able to set the difficulty level in the scenerio..Therefore..You must have reyk's custom trigger "change difficulty"..I'm still going to give you a link for it anyways..

Just copy/paste the data shown into your typetest file in the trigger folder..Just in case you don't have this effect..

Made my own thread about this, but couldn't get the right answer. I thought you, kjn, might be able to answer it. Is it possible to very quickly cover a blank map with trees packed so densely that no units can pass between? I'm not expecting a solution though Stick out tongue

By the way anyone else can answer it Big Smile

You could make a clump of very tightly spaced trees then select them all and cut and paste...after you have done this a few times you will be able to select larger and larger groups of clumped trees and copy and paste them in much larger spaces and numbers...its a progressive cut and paste scheme.  It should not take you long at all before your map is just one big cluster of trees.

Thanks for the link.  I can see were that could be useful.  You could up the level of difficulty in the game based on the way the player was handling the game with that script.  Or using that script I could text the player (at the beging of the game) that if he collects treasture chest 1 then it will play level one and if collects treature chest two then it plays at level two...etc...kind of a pain in the the arse way to go about it though.

I am somewhat disappointed that a player can't just select upfront the difficultly level before they play the custom scenerio without having to go into the scenario editor itself.  As it stands right now...the difficulty is set based on the last save of my scenario (during testing and development) at the level of difficulty I played/tested it last from within the scenario editor.

Welcome and thanks for posting in this thread..

There are many questions answered in this and the nine most asked thread..It is best to check in these pinned threads first for your answer,  before posting a question in them or starting an entirely new repetative thread in the category page..Most likely it could have been covered already in the two pinned threads at the categorie's top portion..This is the observed protocall in here..A lot of guys seem to forget or just don't care anymore..Your co-operation is most appreciated by all!

Redclaw is correct..There is no way to cover your map with trees on a single click..He has given you a great solution..The only thing I can add is..

In the forest tool and with your selected type of forest..Make your brush size larger by clicking then holding the "alt" button on your key board..Then move your scroll wheel until you have a larger brush size that is required..You can also up the density slide bar in the panel..Then place your trees..It may take a few positions but that should do what you want relatively faster, but it won't keep the units passing through them totally..Keep in mind..The more trees on your map..The higher the map's file size becomes..The biggest drawback with this is..It takes forever to load and it can contribute to lag issues..If some one would download your map to play and if their computer is slower than yours..They may incounter problems..It is best to try to keep a balance with that..You want enough trees to show but keep your file size anywhere from 270 - 350kbs..that should be a safe range for all.

You're most welcome..Happy to have been able help!

Yes I understand your disapointment..There will be many as you go with scenerio design for AOE3..Even though with all the limitations you'll eventually realize as you experiment..You still can do a lot of things..More often than not you can find work arounds to approach things you originally thought on how to achieve..You just have to be determined to find the solution and keep open to suggestions as they come.

    Best regards!

Oh! Thank you for pitching in and lending a hand..It is always good to have more than one solution to offer a fellow designer in need.

Thanks a lot everyone! I would have never thought of cutting and pasting the trees. Sounds like a good idea, i'll try it soon, and the alt + mouse wheel thing too.

The map won't be entirely covered by trees, it's just so that I have a place to start. It will be easier to cover the map in trees first rather than only parts of the map.

I would lend a hand but I know very little about the scenario editor Stick out tongue

    It's me again Smile

Sorry to bother you again; I've got another question to ask. I've checked through the mentioned threads but can't find anything on this topic.

I think it is possible to stop units moving into areas using that terrain type that does that, but is it possible to stop only one players' units moving to certain areas of the map, either using this terrain or using a different method?

    Thanks in advance Big Smile

    BennyBoyG,

It's never a bother..Feel free to ask away..I'll do my best..

In regards to your question : I don't know of any way to do this for a single player..You could try to place an impassable terrain and guard the only entrance way..This way your units can pass..

    Another possibility..

You can use Spc path blocks..You can find them under object/place objects/all..You'll find different sizes..Place them on the map as Gaia, in the opening/entrance way..The only problem is it blocks all players..After doing this..You could make a trigger..Use a timer condition..Or..Use a units in area condition..Then use a destroy effect to remove the/a Spc path block..Then post units at the area to guard the opening for your player..You can add in an army deploy effect to this trigger..So that when the Spc path block is destroyed..Units will be spawned to guard the opening..Experiment!.
