In patch 1.05 we are changing the way our game handles invisible players in the game setup window. We are making these changes to address the issue where players would immediately go Out of Sync at the start of a game. Instead of letting an invisible player join a game room we are preventing the invisible players from joining any games that they might cause to go Out of Sync. These changes will only prevent these players from joining games that they would be invisible in; all other games they can join without issue. We hope that this will help with some of the early Out of Syncs that players are experiencing.

In the current system, players that join a hosted game with incorrectly configured hardware may see a single invisible player. The invisible player issue is caused by incorrectly configured Routers and/or Network Cards, Anti-Virus Software, incorrectly set up Firewalls, or in a worst case scenario Internet Service Providers using conflicting hardware. Most of the time this can be fixed by resetting the network hardware or following the troubleshooting tips below.

If you are receiving the message “Failed to Join Game” when trying to play on ESO, try these steps:

• Power Cycle your network hardware: Turn off your modem, router, and computer. Wait a few minutes then turn them back on one at a time in the listed order. Some routers need to be power cycled to except new versions of software such as Age of Empires 3.

• Disable Anti Virus, Anti Spyware, and other security software while you play Age of Empires 3.

• Upgrade your firmware on your router and your network card.

• Verify your Firewall or internet security software is allowing AGE3 to pass through.

• Disable your Firewall or internet security software temporarily while you test connecting to the game.

• Toggle UPnP (If you have UPnP on, try turning it off and if you have UPnP off, try turning it on.)

• Change your DMZ settings

• Port forward UDP and TCP/IP ports 2300-2310 to your machine. If that range does not work try expanding it to cover ports 2300-2340, or try using the OverridePort command listed below.

• Some routers have a Gaming Mode. Be sure to enable that option if your router supports this feature.

• If your router has logging turned on make sure to clean off your logs or restart logging before playing Age of Empires 3

• Change your computers IP on your router. Example: if your computer sits at 192.168.0.100 change it to 192.168.0.200

i cant connect to servers, keep on saying "failed to join game"
Iv tried everything . I have the model D-Link (DSL-302G)
My brother bought a laptop and he couldnt connect to the net so he called up some company and he then could connect to the net on his laptop. After that i couldnt connect to servers. And i dont want to ask him becuz he doesnt allow me to use his net (Selfish brother) And i dont quite understand what your instruction are. (noob at comps) Is it ESO or my internet. Okay I'm not too good with the internet, infact i know almost nothing...

 I keep getting "failed to join game" and I can't connect to some ESO users

I have some questions:

-What is UPnP? And how do you toggle it?

-What is DMZ settings? And how do you change them?

-How do you change your router's IP address?

All this stuff is VERY confusing to me...

When I try to port forward I try the port checker but it says the port is not open or is still being blocked... Can you help me? I have a D-Link WRB or something like that. I can get the specific model number if it helps...

1.)Nice Necrobump.

 2.)Microsoft published the game.Ensemble Studios made it.

3.)This is for ES Online,Not LAN.You can find different things for LAN by searching or asking around.

Just like to note that I've also been having this problem.

Several frustrating hours have been lost and the only temporary fix - and one that's very inconsistent - has been to create a LAN network over the internet using Hamachi (hamachi.en.softonic.com/download - no need to sign up for anything) and then selecting the LAN game option. This has worked once.

I will be thinking twice the next time I pick up a Microsoft title. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice? Shame on me.

The failed to join issue occurs with issues in networking and routing.   These can be alleviated in most cases by making some port forwarding changes in your router and making sure no software is blocking the game on your system (i.e. firewalls).

port fowarding does not work with my router. i did it on my old router but my new 1 is lacking the feature 98% of games i can't join, but they can all join me.

and when they do they alwaYS WANT UNFAIR TEAM OR THEY LEAVE

time frame to starting a good game around 30 minutes to 1 hour 

If your router does not allow you to forward ports, you may consider getting a new router. Having a router that will support the game is important as having a computer that will do so.
