Subject: If Age of Mythology II ever was to be, what new factions would you want ?

I'd go for the Celts.  Seeing that I am melange of Celts and Norse, (I'm flemish) I'd love to see that.

This is what I had in mind.

    Heroes:

Just as like the Egyptians have two kinds of heroes, the pharaoh and the priest, so would the Celts.  They have the main hero unit, the Druid, available at the start of a game (or a little later) and they can also promote  a limited number of soldiers instantly to heroes, like the Atlanteans do (but only a limited number at a time).

The Druid would be promoting those units at the cost of favor, resources and populations.  Also, the Druid 'sanctifies' one tree which will then become that city's temple, at the cost of a normal temple's cost.

The other heroes would serve as counter-myth-units, however they are limited in number, they are also stronger than their Atlantean counterparts.

    Resources:

    Gold

Gold is harvested by all infantry (see below).  Given that the Celts historically were very advanced smiths, every infantry unit can gather gold.  The Celts have one drop-off building to be used for all three resources.

    Wood

Wood is also harvested by infantry, but the Druid can also harvest wood, at a faster rate than the hunters do.

    Food

    Food is harvested by infantry.

    The infantry and gathering

Where the Norse infantry can fight and build buildings, the Celtic infantry can gather resources and fight.  Buildings are built by slaves.  The shrine (temple) is 'built' by the Druid.

    Favor

Slaves aren't just for building buildings.  They can be sacrificed using the Shrine, to please the gods.  They would give an instant 25 favor, seeing that sacrificing a unit is indeed a high cost.

    Not bad thinking there!

More inportantly upgrading the vikings(since I am Norwegian) is a priority!

Pehaps a Nuklear Berserker is an idea?

    Or a fission powered Longship?

    Dragons with hellfire missiles.

    Just kidding of course...

Would like to see a 2nd Aom!

Hur gar det ? (can 't do the dot on the 'a')

There's probably a bit norse in me as well, since I live in one of the 'lucky' areas that fell prey to the invasions.

In any way, I was suprised the Celts weren't in the first game, given that next to the greeks, romans and germanic culture, the Celts were also a mayor player in ancient europe.

Yes excellent idea but one problem. there are two may celtic tribes and there are many gods for each tribe seeing as there are tribes stretching from ireland to turkey there are too many gods.

I can't imagine all the gods from every pantheon were present in AoM.

But it is proven that Cernunnos for example, and Camulos, were worshipped in a very large area, by very many celtic tribes.

Something deeper in Africa than Egypt, and maybe a couple of American civilizations. Inca and a general Plains or Eastern one, maybe.

Tomorrow has made a phone call to today.

Maybe, but I think the AoM games would have to be, and stay, as they are now, like any story you'd read in a book on classical mythology, taking place back in the days when America was not discovered yet (although the natives there were much farther ahead at that time then any other culture that has a place in AoM).

    And even more indians ?
