Custom Map Tutorial out!
Posted by: MosheLevi I can create a custom map with no problem and make it work. However, when I use the "Triger" menu to lower the pop count for some units, it does not work for me. ... Do you know if there is a way to change the population count, or anything else (like hit points) with the editor? Were you able to make it work?

Ok, first of all, you mean a scenario and not a custom map. The differences are explained in the topic. I am not sure if you can currently change the general population count with a trigger. But, for a certain type of units you can change the HP, attacks, etc. by using the trigger effect "SetTechStatus" and select an appropriate technology. Regards, M0nTy_PyTh0n

Custom Map Tutorial & FAQs
Posted by: Kenshin_66 Yeah i sound like i noob, but what is a Random map scrip file? what does it mean? |
|
A random map script file is a map file, similar to the TEXAS map. Only these maps can be played in skirmish mode. These maps can change their look and will show up different in each game start (especially the terrain settings) as a static custom scenario does. A scenario will ALWAYS have the same look when you start it, whereas, a Random Map can change its stuff like resources for trees, mines, huntable herds, as well as cliffs, trade routes, etc. But, to make such kind of maps you need many, many hours to make such maps. If you have the time and the motivation to learn how to make such maps, you can read my tutorial I posted the link to in this topic! Regards, M0nTy_PyTh0n.

Custom Map Tutorial & FAQs
This post is for ES, not for Monty_Python. I don't want to see a regurgitated reply from M_P. I read your FAQ, M_P, but your FAQ, etc. doesn't offer enough details on "why" for the following: Q: Why can I not play my custom scenarios in skirmish mode? A: Only random maps can be played in skirmish mode. |
|
This is a brush-off answer that ES would give, imo. That may be the answer, but it's not acceptible and is a poor excuse for ES. How hard would it have been to make the game accept pre-defined, user-created maps? Not hard at all. I just feel it's rather lame that I can build a perfectly good map using the Scenario Editor, yet the game isn't sophisticated enough to be able to just simply plop a few computer players on it for me to play against?? Whatever. Like another user who posted, I also wasted a few hours making my own map, only to find out when I tried to play it that it's a "scenario" and not a "custom map". Whatever. It's just one more strike against this game.
