    Try reading the Multiplayer FAQ.

    http://www.agecommunity.com/faq_mp.aspx

Also if you're getting a popup about "Your IP is showing" it's likely you have spyware on your computer.  Everyone's IP is showing, there is no way to hide it.

That wasn't showing, it was something about that my IP adress was invalid.

    Q. I am encountering general connectivity issues; such as the error messages "Invalid IP Address", "Host Canceled/rejected" or "failed to join game"; what can I do?
If you encounter any of the above error messages then most likely there is a conflict with age3 and a router setting.

    • Power Cycle your network hardware: Turn off your modem, router, and computer.
Wait a few minutes then turn them back on one at a time in the listed order.
Some routers need to be power cycled to except new versions of software such as Age of Empires 3
    • If you connect wirelessly, connect with a wired connection.
    • Verify your Firewall or internet security software is allowing Age3 (age3.exe) and TWC (age3x.exe) to pass through
    • Disable your Firewall or internet security software temporarily while you test connecting to the game.
    • Upgrade your firmware on your router and your network card
    • Toggle UPnP (If you have UPnP on, try turning it off and if you have UPnP off, try turning it on.
    • Test with the DMZ setting both on and off
    • Port forward UDP and TCP/IP ports 2300-2310 to your machine. If that range does not work try expanding it to cover ports 2300-2340, or try using the OverridePort command listed below.
    • Some routers have a Gaming Mode. Be sure to enable that option if your router supports this feature.
    • If your router has logging turned on make sure to clean off your logs or restart logging before playing Age of Empires 3
    • Change your computers IP on your router. Example: if your computer sits at 192.168.0.100 change it to 192.168.0.200

Note, if you need assistance configuring your router please refer to your router manufacture.

Yes this seems far too common for myself and my friend as well. I can't even play with my friend who lives on the other side of town!

I am in the information technology field and know all about port forwarding and firewalls but this problem still plagues me. I've tried all kinds of different tweaks; dynamic/static, upnp on/off, power cycle all hardware, update firmware. You name it... I've spent hours trying to get it right.

I have no problems playing other games online.  While ESO admins may contest that it is a connection problem with varying routers that are unable to sync up, I think otherwise.

The ESO servers seem to be the problem.  It's really a joke to buy an expansion when there are only just a handful of games to choose from and I am able to connect to roughly 10% of them. The Quick Match feature is a joke, you can put it on a search with settings wide open and it'll search for 10 mins and still bring no luck.

I know all about the FAQs...

Two years ago I bought a new modem after AOE3 came out to fix some issues...

I haven't played for a couple of weeks and today when I tried to log in and connect to games I stared receiving Failed to Join messages for ALL games. That has never happened before and it was rare that I ever received any Failed to Join messages. Not sure what the problem is but I simply can't play any longer.

One question I have. My user.cfg still contains a line that reads: internetAddressServer="72.3.239.134" Is that still needed? That was a fix recommended by ES after a patch long ago.

I tried the solution offered by dys4ik and now I can join some games but I still get the message when attempting to connect to many games. As I said in my last post, I didn't have this problem at all when I last tried to play a couple of weeks ago.

I am now beyond fed up. Looks like my days of playing AOE3 are over. I bought a new router once before to play this game. I'm not about to do it again.

Hi, I have similar problem - I can not be in one game with one of my friends. When he hosts game or when he is in I can not join (Failed to join game), with the others everything works. And same situation is for him - when he tries to join my game or game where I am, he receives the same error message. Do you have any idea where the problem is? We went through FAQ and other solutions but without any success.
