I finally found out, where the problem was - in my router (ASUS WL500gP). When I try to connect directly via modem, everythink works. But I need to use router. I set up port forwarding for mentioned ports (http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Asus/WL-500G/Age_of_Empires_III.htm). I also tried DMZ server, I disabled fw, but without any success.
Could you help me with that? Problem must be in the router, because without it, it works.

Like i said , its definitly a routeur problem , i dont have vista, but cannot forward ports

I can forward ports, but even if I forward everythink via DMZ server, it doesn't work ... and I do not know why.

the only solution i see that fixes this problem completely is having an anti virus that opens ports for you if you allow it to.. i had norton anti virus on my computer then i reinstalled windows and i cant find the cd anymore.. and with the new patch.. im totally wrecked.. im thinking of reinstalling norton but it slowed down my last windows by a lot and i dont want that again.. i think that the fix in the new patch that doesnt allow invisible players is the problem... it has fixed a lot less problems than it has caused..

Like i mentioned in one of my previous posts, Ive tried completely uninstalling my antti virus program and it didn't change anything.

Ive still had no luck in getting a game going or finding a soloution, ill probably try with XP in the new year, but tbh this is pathetic

I'm having the same problem since i got my speedtouch router and even with the public adress option (DMZ) i'm not able to play any game. I'm sure the patch is the one causing the problem. I was thinking of buying warchiefs and asian dynasties but i soon decided not to do so because ensemble studios provides a awful support to the game. That's a shame!

I am exp the same problems as every1 here, and like every1 i tried all teh FAQ solutions. No joy. So now i'd like someone to recommend a router that does allow me to play AOE 3, i didnt fork out $50 to be able to join 1/40 games. i'd like it to be wired, and around $130 plz. ideally four ports too, but any suggestion is welcome. thanks for reading and id appreciate any assiatnce.

There is a day to come when i will buy a router to play AOE3, considering that this problems are Ensemble Studios fault.

There is no way i would buy a new router to play a game, when i can play every other single game i have treid with no probelms at all, including this game 1 yr ago!

I aint gunna waste anymroe money for AOE, I bought the 3 games around 69.99 for original, 39.99 for TWC and 29.99 forTAD. All liek i nthe first week they got realised.  Total of 140.$ My video card for the game 400$. My RAM for my comp 100$ and I jsut bought a new comp to eoy fully the game 1500$ and now i get this freaken error saying Faield to jOIn, IT worked with my old comp, and i got the same connections as in the old one, so why does it fail now?

I can see that every1 thinks my decision to get a new router is retarded, and I would normally agree with them, but i need a new router anyway and it'd just be a bonus to get one that plays AOE 3. I extend my request to any BRAND names that are proving able to connect to ESO (damn the ineffective piece of crap)
