The game idea you are describing sounds kind of like Age of Empires 1. Instead of "remaking" Age of Empires 1 and 2, Ensemble should make new games focusing on these time periods, but with all new historical campaigns, new units, new playing styles, and civs that play more differently from each other. Civs may have all unique units. Obviously, a game covering these time periods would be cool, but it would need much more than just an update in graphics, as many people on the forums have suggested. And who knows, maybe ES could make a 20th century warfare game, but just not under the Age of Empires series name. It could be a separate spinoff game much in the sense of Age of Mythology. ES easily has the skill to make a 20th century RTS that could compete with Company of Heroes and all the others, but it would need to introduce new economy and military playing styles that may not be consistent with the Age of Empires series. Forumers, would you be happy if ES released a 20th century warfare game, as long as it wasn't an Age of Empires game? And, would you like an ancient/medieval game that is brand new, or would you rather it be AoE1/AoE2 EXACTLY, with only graphical changes?

Re: Age 4- World Wars
This would be awesome I don't care what anyone says. As for settlers gathering resources, it would have to be all agricultural and you would have to convert gold to cash. Brain wave: all the axis civs train units in the conventional way, since they dominated everything, wheras the Allies must convert settlers into troops (for free) but then outfit them with weaponry and technologies, which would be just as expensive. So the resources would be food, duh, gold/cash, and stone. The planes, though, this is what really physces me up!!! Wit one hit, a whole base could be done for unless there is some anti aircraft guarding it. And the campaign! Jesus I am so happy just thinking about it. If this happens it will be the best ever.

As for civilizations, I would say Britian, Spain, U.K., Turkey, Republic of China, Soviet Union, Australia, Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada (maybe with cards to muster U.K. units or something), France early and becomes Vicchy France with age ups (weak late game), Nazi Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Japan, and Poland. This game would be very hard to do, however, without extensive dimplomacy modes of the game.

Re: Age 4- World Wars
Well I think they would have to go from roughly ~1850 to ~1980 The Ages could be ~1850 to ~1900 [Civil War, Spanish American War], ~1900 to ~1925 [Great War, Depression], ~1925 to ~1950 [World War 2, start of Cold War], ~1950 to ~1980 [Cold War, Arms Race, Space Race]. I think this could be a great segway [if the picture from Age of Empries 3 is to be believed] into Age of Empires V [future]. The 'empires' could be Germany -> Nazi's Austrian/Hungarian Russian -> USSR United States British Empire French Italian -> Fascist Party China Obviously the game mechanics are going to have to change because this isn't going to be a brawl, but I think that is a challenge that Ensemble can overcome.

Re: Age 4- World Wars
As long as they don't make "Age of Empires 4 - Modern Warfare" we're fine. On
a more serious note, I think it should be set at around WWI time, or
just before. It could start around the time that Germany became Germany
(up until the 1870s, it was a group of small states called Prussia, and
wasn't a country). It might go up to modern times, or further
(brilliant, Age V Home city shipment: H-bomb). Hopefully it'll be pretty good.

I agree with you those of you who are saying that a 20th century AOE seems a little out of place. But at the same time, in order for AOE: IV to be a great seller it needs to stand out from all the rest of the games. So if it does go back to an ancient time or do a sequal to AOM, its going to have to bring a lot to the table, considering we've already played those types of games. That is to say that Ensemble Studio's is even going make another one.... I hope so!

Re: Age 4- World Wars
I would really like to see a WWI-WWII Age of Empires, as long as it doesn´t copy the ideas of CoH, (a great game, perhaps the bes RTS so far).ES is capable of coming up with a lot of new concepts to make it an original game. What I wouldn´t like is the idea of WW being only a certain age in the game(for example, WWII is like Industrial Age, and the Imperial something like Cold War or present time)
Wood would be replaced by some kind of mineral to create concrete, there should also be steel (for tanks, guns and so on).
I disagree with the idea of a Nazi Germany or Vichy France. I don´t think that ES would introduce political elements on the game.

Yes, resource gathering and gameplay format would have to be greatly changed for a 20th century game. And all ES games released so far have been very original. They won't copy Company of Heroes. They definitely need to introduce new gameplay elements to breathe new life into the AoE series. What those changes should be, I don't know, but ES should be able to figure it out. And, it would be impossible not to include Nazi Germany and Vichy France in a game that is about WWII. The game wouldn't get too politically heavy, RTS games rarely, if ever, go into politics. The Holocaust is the only thing that should be left out, to avoid controversy, just as slavery was left out of AoE III. Besides AoE games focus solely on military history, ignoring political history for the most part.
