Hi thanks for this guide.i see the movie and i dont undestend how you move workers whithout using mouse.Cant you explain the basic hotkey to micromanagement workers etc.

    Thank you

What you see in the movie is me watching a recorded game of myself. So the mousework you see on screen is just what I was doing while I was watching, not what I was doing while I was playing. =)

Thats why you ship colonial militia if your being rushed hard.

Legend is right. You should be able to ship Colonial Millitia. If you're forced to send this before 700 Food, you'll only advance a minute or so later. The thing about a Russian rush is that it lacks much siege capability. So even if you have a ton of Strelets in my town, you can't do a whole lot. If you do manage to take down a bank, say, you'll lose so many guys that it won't be worth it (with CM, a TC one-shots a strelet and I believe even two-shots a Cossack).

Once you're in the Fortess age, you'll want to play a little more defensively. You can build a few walls, with your Banks, in the front of your town to create pathing problems and then use Skirmishers' range to keep Strelets at bay. Against Russia, I would reccomend first building a barracks, making 10 or so Skirmishers, and then build an arty foundy, and start making Halb + Falc. This combo (with shipped Ruyters and Skirmishers mixed in) is almost impossible for Russia to beat in the second age.

Incognito, I've thought about doing the VOD that way, but I decided that it wouldn't be so good for a more instruction-oriented thing like this. Basically, if I do the screen capture of myself playing, you're going to see me skip around the map a bunch, which can make it kind of hard to focus on what I'm doing. Also, if I want to explain something more indepth, it can help to look at what's happening much longer than I actually do when I'm playing. I definitely hope to make some VODs like that in the future, though. =)

How dare you underestatement the siege power of a strelet! Maybe not be much, but in numbers it's powerful. I was playing against a port player and was able to take down 3 TC with only strelets, but he resign before I could burn them all down. So what one TC shot can kill a strelet. When you kill a strelet, two more takes it's place. I do agree when you enemy have stone walls, fort, outposts, and 3 TC. The job to too much for a strelet and that when Oprichniks kicks in. I wonder their a good Fast Fortress strategy for Russian?

reading this already won me a game once, i was dutch against a german on texas. so as we started with towers, i didn't expect him to rush(i also looked at his deck and it looked like an FF one) so i didn't care mcuh about having an army early on the game.

but he rushed, a bit late, but we were still on age 2, what saved me was the market and the banks i had, while my settlers were on the TC my banks kept producing coin and i traded it for food on market, i got some skirms, killed his rush, aged, atacked and i won...

It builds you up really fast, but I tried it and lost becuase they sent troops in the 2nd age. That is the only problem with this strategy; if they attack in the 2nd age it can't work.

Great strategy, helped me a lot, only i can't get to having 800 food with 16 vills, always have 17. But that isn't the biggest problem.

Question: you write the '600 wood card' in you recommended cards, but you don't use it to get to Fortress. Isn't is better then to take the '1000 wood card' in your deck instead?

     Thanks a lot Big Smile

you can have the 1000 wood card but i would suggest having the 600 wood card also.  it helps sometimes if you need a quick shipment of wood in case you run ouf of huntables (for a mill)  it is not a necesity but it can be of great help.  (that and the 1000 wood card isnt available till age 3 so it wont help you until you have already completed your ff)

i have used this strat much (with the 700 gold card as apposed to the 700 food one) and this way is much better, keeps the bulk of your villies next to your tc and protected.  i do have one question however.  when the ballance patch comes out and dutch starts out with one less villager, will it affect the start up of the start?  should we start aging with 15 villies and have slightley less eco, or go ahead and get the next villager and age slightley slower.  i still have to wait for the last villager in the quene line to be made b4 i can age as it is now, with this change it will be 2 villagers and possibly 3 due to gathering rate of one less villie.... what u guys think?

With proper herding, you should be able to pull of this strategy just fine even if you are attacked in Colonial. Like I said, you can also use a shipment on Colonial Militia. The extra TC attack alone neutralizes most rushes.

I keep the 600 wood card in there because it's just a strong card. If, for some reason, you're forced to fight in the second age (super hard rush, or map screw), it's a really handy card to have. I don't like having 1000 wood because it takes up space that I want to use for extra military cards.

In the next patch, I would suggest aging up with 15 vils. With the extra gold crate, you'll only have to gather 200 gold total (outside of crates) in the Discovery age, which is pretty awesome, seeing as there are almost always some gold treasures. This strategy will work quite well post-patch, you shouldn't be slowed down very much at all. =)
