    Subject: playing vs clans

if i see two players from the same clan in the same team when i join a 2v2 i usually leave - you know they're gonna nail you and they're clearly only playing to win - not fo fun [most of the time]

i think part of the beauty of 2v2 3v3 etc is not knowing your partner or how they react and having to adjust your game accordingly - not becoming a mechanic one-trick pony

this is why i usually ask for random teams as well and i never host a game with set teams - thats part of the fun as well - if you get a conscript on your team, dont *** and call them a noob - help them along and help them get more out of the game, if you get another high rank, good for you :p personally i prefer having someone equal or lower than me on my team as generally speaking higher ranks try to order you about which really isnt cool

seems that a lot of people have forgotten that you should play for fun - not wins and power rating.

    anyone else feel the same?

Meh, random team games are a mixed bag, I try to avoid them.  It's totally luck of the draw so you might end up with a good player or a total noob... yes I've found myself in both situations.  Now I usually only play team games when I know the guy I'm playing with and have played with him before.

thats part of the fun though IMHO - i really dont care if the guy on my team really doesnt know how to play, i can help him along and no doubt its giving him a better experience than some smarmy git saying 'you suck' etc - i really dont believe in insulting someone just because of their level of skill in the game - its just low :p

though i know what you mean - before i was enlightened [i used to play for rank and wins on vanilla - literally all day sometimes] i would get really p*ss*d if i got partnered with a beginner, but even then i woul never insult them

the above was not a dig at you mate, just a general observation ;)

m8 im with you on some points but the others r just my opinion. i gotta agree with u that there are AOE3 ppl that act a bit...well jack assy. if they lose a game with u its NEVER their fault always urs. (this is for a some ppl not all dont worry). its ppl like this that make this game unfun and have actually made me not want to play. in fact one time this captain kept telling me wat to do and how i should be managing this and that and i was doin fine until the enemy comes and i fight em. ALONE. i win but at a high price and need to rebuild but my ally is like "COME ON! PUSH FORWARD" so i did so and we got killed and i retreated and he was saying *** about how im a noob and that it was all my fault. it was pretty even at that point but i was gettin so sick of his ranting that i just said "screw u" and left.

NOW for the part i dont agree with u on.

i think that having a con. on my team will REALLY make it so i dont want to play. i like even teams not teams that are so unbalanced that i have no hope of winning or even playing a game that is just impossible to do well in. while i do like the idea of sharing tips with ppl, do it in unrated games so u dont mess urself over and have to play noobs b/c no one will let u play with ur old rank. ya end of my rant now.

Ok will I just read your post.  If 2 players are in the same clan you leave... Yet you say just play for fun.  Well everyone in my clan is a friend I have played with on aoe3 for the past 2-3 years.  So we decided to make a clan since we've played together alot.  Its the same thing as not being in the same clan.  We will still be just as good together if we were or were not in the same clan.  So your logic of "a lot of people have forgotten that you should play for fun" well you just leave games with 2 people in the same clan so we can't really agree that you play just for fun.

Now yes I play this game for fun but I also like to be competitive.  I do not mind losing here and there but when I lose alot (just got over an 8 game losing streak wow that was gay) I can get a bit angry and that'll take the fun out of the game till I can win again lol.  Its all fun but being competitive is a way some people think are fun.

I feel this way, too. What other reason is there to play an Age of Empires game? Everything else comes second! Just don't let competitiveness get in the way of having fun!

One thing I completely disagree on. Not all clans are all about winning.

I have like 4-5 guys in my school that play AOE. We made a clan for the fun of it.

Based on your analysis, people shouldn't want to play with us because we have a set of brackets with some letters in them in front of our names?

Clans are ment to be fun, not to strike fear in the hearts of people when they join a game with a clan teamed up.

    if I join a game and find I'm playing against a clan in a 2v2 or 3v3 I don't leave...

reason being when I play with my clan in a 2v2 or 3v3 I don't want it to be hard to get a game...

so what goes around comes around (hopefully) :)

oh and on the fun/competitiveness issue - everyone plays for fun but for quite a few people, me included, playing competitively makes the game more fun :)

Yeah competitiveness does make things more fun.

And yeah skwzz and lost will establish fear from just joining a room. Still though besides them there's no reason to fear playing with/against a clan.

If the teams are balanced the game should be good regardless of who's playing.

well what i do ussaly is play with friends i used to play random ALOT but now that i know most of the people i make friends and we make teams togeather so i dont realy like random games you can get on the bad end of the line and you SCWRED out of your mind.

basicly try to find a good partner and you can OWN any good clan especily if they dont know your a good team :) ..... (lol watch out for team of wilow scath and random22)
