Subject: Failed to join....with a twist....

Im having that stupid failed to join bug except its only when my RL friend tries to join my game, or i try to join his.

We can each join any other game on the browser except eachothers. we can't play with eachother :(

Anyone know why this is happening?

Edit: When i join a game, and get in, my friend joins and it fails to connect. When i leave it, he can connect no problem.

He lives about 150 miles away and uses a diff ISP, so why the HELL is this happening?

This happened to two of my friends, they could both join mine sometimes, but could nevr connect to each others games. Friend one who is pretty good with computers said it was because friend 2 didn't have his ports forwarded. He also said that if you dont have some ports forwarded then u cant connect with some people.

Thats just what he always said, but friend 2 quit the game so we never worried about it again.

P.S. i don't know how to port forward so dont ask me

Open ports to all the servers, restart connection, reboot comp then restart connection.  I used to have that problem till I had my dad open all the ports :).

You should check out our multiplayer faq

    http://www.agecommunity.com/faq_mp.aspx

    Q. I am encountering general connectivity issues; such as the error messages "Invalid IP Address", "Host Canceled/rejected" or "failed to join game"; what can I do?
If you encounter any of the above error messages then most likely there is a conflict with age3 and a router setting.

    • Power Cycle your network hardware: Turn off your modem, router, and computer.
Wait a few minutes then turn them back on one at a time in the listed order.
Some routers need to be power cycled to except new versions of software such as Age of Empires 3
    • If you connect wirelessly, connect with a wired connection.
    • Verify your Firewall or internet security software is allowing Age3 (age3.exe) and TWC (age3x.exe) to pass through
    • Disable your Firewall or internet security software temporarily while you test connecting to the game.
    • Upgrade your firmware on your router and your network card
    • Toggle UPnP (If you have UPnP on, try turning it off and if you have UPnP off, try turning it on.
    • Test with the DMZ setting both on and off
    • Port forward UDP and TCP/IP ports 2300-2310 to your machine. If that range does not work try expanding it to cover ports 2300-2340, or try using the OverridePort command listed below.
    • Some routers have a Gaming Mode. Be sure to enable that option if your router supports this feature.
    • If your router has logging turned on make sure to clean off your logs or restart logging before playing Age of Empires 3
    • Change your computers IP on your router. Example: if your computer sits at 192.168.0.100 change it to 192.168.0.200

Note, if you need assistance configuring your router please refer to your router manufacture.

Or..... try and design a game that when people log in to ESO, they can actually join each others games with consistency.  Doesn't happen with other games, and it's always been a problem for AOE III, TWC and TAD.

Typcial eso 'failed to join' over and over today.  4 guys play a 2v2, then SAME 4 guys want to play another 2v2, and guess what, 2 of the players get the 'failed to join' error and can't get into the next game, this happens routinely.

Nothing to do with routers, modems, ips, it's ESO, not our hardware.  Failed to join happens about 40% of the time, great game.
