    Subject: router problems?

i know what a router is, and i know this is not exactly what es is supposed to be looking for in this thread but it is directly related to eso problems (i cant connect).

firstly, is router only for wireless internet?

because i get my internet thru a direct cable from my isp

where physically is my router supposed to be located because i have a toshiba satelite laptop

how do i know the name of my router model

the closest thing i could find is when i typed in my default gateway in the browser, i got WorldACCXX TA-200...then it asks me for login name and password which ive never heard of before...*btw worldaccxx ta-200 is a telephone adapter and it like connects lan to wan..so please

    HELP ME please

If you get "cannot connect to ESO" make sure you have downloaded the latest TWC patch from our website.  You can get it here:  http://www.agecommunity.com/gameUpdates_xp.aspx

    Q. When I try and connect to ESO the game either hangs or I receive the error message "Can not connect to ESO", what should I do?
    1. First simply reboot your computer and network hard and try again to connect.
    2. Software firewall such as Norton and ZoneAlarm will need to be opened up so that AOE3.exe can connect to the internet. You can also disable them before you test playing the game to see if this solves the problem. If it does you may want to manually configure your firewall, update its software, or possibly even try a different firewall package.

Some people have found removing the age3 entry from the exception list and letting the application re-detect age3 the next time they try and connect has solved this problem. Running your machine without firewall protection for long periods of time is not recommended. If you are playing on a LAN at a University, business etc. please check with your IT administrators.

    3. Also you might want to verify if Internet Explorer is set to Online mode. To check open IE, click on File and look at the line labeled "Work Offline"; if there is a check mark next to entry then uncheck it.

If you are having failed to join game or invalid IP address do the following:

    Q. I am encountering general connectivity issues; such as the error messages "Invalid IP Address", "Host Canceled/rejected" or "failed to join game"; what can I do?
If you encounter any of the above error messages then most likely there is a conflict with age3 and a router setting.

    • Power Cycle your network hardware: Turn off your modem, router, and computer.
Wait a few minutes then turn them back on one at a time in the listed order.
Some routers need to be power cycled to except new versions of software such as Age of Empires 3
    • If you connect wirelessly, connect with a wired connection.
    • Verify your Firewall or internet security software is allowing Age3 (age3.exe) and TWC (age3x.exe) to pass through
    • Disable your Firewall or internet security software temporarily while you test connecting to the game.
    • Upgrade your firmware on your router and your network card
    • Toggle UPnP (If you have UPnP on, try turning it off and if you have UPnP off, try turning it on.
    • Test with the DMZ setting both on and off
    • Port forward UDP and TCP/IP ports 2300-2310 to your machine. If that range does not work try expanding it to cover ports 2300-2340, or try using the OverridePort command listed below.
    • Some routers have a Gaming Mode. Be sure to enable that option if your router supports this feature.
    • If your router has logging turned on make sure to clean off your logs or restart logging before playing Age of Empires 3
    • Change your computers IP on your router. Example: if your computer sits at 192.168.0.100 change it to 192.168.0.200

Note, if you need assistance configuring your router please refer to your router manufacture.

routers can have a modem in them, so that u can connect via lan(cable)

some routers are just routers, where u can only connect by wlan

First off you guys dont have a clue as to what your talking about.=)

A router is used to take one IP address that your ISP gives you and subnets it to provide internet to multiple PCs. If your computer is the only computer connected to your ISP then most likely you don't have a router. Routers can provide  wireless internet  but also there is a built in switch in the back of most linksy routers.

What type of internet do you have? The router model and maker is on top of the router but from the sound of it you don't have a router if you don't know where its at.

If you want to find your default gateway then go into a command prompt by going  to run cmd.exe and the type in ipconfig then press enter.

CMD with display your ip your subnet mask and your default gateway.

A routers job is to take you from a LAN environment  to a WAN environment, not a telephone adapter.

so....i dont have a router then

my connection type is well, my isp gave me ip protocols and a cable...i plugged in the cable and filled in the ip protocols and tada..thats my internet.

in that case...my isp must be blocking age of empires eso?

what should i tell my isp to do...like unblock which specific ports

Unless you have a blue box between the connection from ISP to your computer then no.

ISP means Internet Service Provider, for example Cox, Qwest, AOL, or Verizon.

There are different types of internet, High speed, dial up, Baseband, Broadband.

Do any of the above sound like the type of internet you have?

No ISP is not blocking anything from you unless you have not been paying you bill =)

In that case you wont have internet at all, but obviously you do since your on these forums.

You tcp/ip protocol should be DHCP, it its static then you need to change it back to DHCP
What exactly happens when you try to connect to ESO? If you need help changing the tcp/ip protocol let me know. The more of the above questions you can answer will help me to help you.

i dont have dail up thats for sure...my internet is not fast so its not high speed and i dont know what baseband and broadband is. lol

my internet works fine...so ur saying my isp is not blocking eso? thats good to know

ill explain what happens: i click on eso rite the first 2 steps happen then it gets stuck on something like local network adress for a long time then it says failed to connect to eso servers..TADA

how do i know if something is DHCP or static?

btw i have a small box connecting me and my isp...cause my isp said internet would only work 100 meters from his office but im just a little out so he put this box in between..its not blue i think its black but ive seen it only a few times and its preety small like a thick calculator

oh yea and also only i am connected to that box no one else

Go to start, then your control panel. Then go to network connections. There should be a Local Area Connection icon. Click it, a window with popup that says local area connection status. Next go to properties. Make sure you are on the general tab, there will be a box that says this connection uses the following items, one of the iteams with say Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Double click it or select it and hit properties. Now your in a new window that says TCP/IP properties and there should be two bubbles make sure there is a green dot next to obtain ip address automaticaly, same with the DNS server, obtain DNS auotmaticaly. Next click on the alternative tab and select Automatic private IP address. This is how to chang your network connection to DHCP. When you open up the Local Area Connection Status windows one of the tabs says Support, click it and at the top it should say address type - - assigned by DHCP do this firt before what i worte above if it says anything different then assigned by DHCP then you need to go through the above steps.

That box is called a Repeater and all it does is amplify the electrical singnal sent by your computer to your ISP and recived from your ISP to your computer.

It sounds like a problem a number of people have and know one seems to know whats going on.
