I was wondering about the general consensus on a decent Indian European Consulate. Would it be viable at all in the early stages due to its high wood cost?

No, I never build a consulate before age III with any asian civ. it costs alot of wood and the imporvments are not worth the wood.

With the other Asians, I find the consulate very viable in long and drawn-out colonial wars. With Japan I use either Dutch for the bank or Isolation for Bushido Principles and 10% increase. As China, the British Redcoats prove a decent anti-cavalry unit, in addition to Quiang pikes.

However, I'm not sure which to use for India, any opinions?

in prolonged skirmishes in age 2 i like to ally with french and send the 300 export card it lets you get 2 500 crates of your choosing(wood coin food)

And to the player that posted above me why post if you have nothing to add?

Consulates are an incredible bonus! I suggest building them around 10 minutes into the game, if not sooner. Around this time you'll have enough export to get a unit shipment (with India you'll usually want either 6 Red Coats from British or 4 vils or 3 Hussars from Ottoman). Not only that, but the "passive" bonus they provide is awesome. +10% on unit HP would be a pretty darn good card to send in the second age. Second age cards are worth 700~ resources, so getting that for 200 wood and some villie building time is an incredible deal!

I am a ok indian player.

I some what agree with mr. milo  on that consulates are very good and if your india you should be making lots of wood. So build a consulate, but where i disagree with mr. milo is that you should have french as your allie. The reason is you get 5% better gathering rate so you will be making resources faster there for you can afford upgrades and bigger armies. Also if you make it to the third age you build the karni Mata in which you will be producing resouces like crazy.

So you should be able to make a huge army.

My india home city level is 75 if that means any thing to you. Since i play India alot.

    Hope this helped!

    @ Himmelmann16:

Are you sure that that would be a viable usage? You spend 300 wood + villie second to make the consulate, use a shipment for the 300 export, and send the 500 crates from the French ally. Not only do you not break even in comparison with a 700 res. shipment, but it takes much longer:

-300 wood and villie seconds to build it (also takes a while to build), waiting time for the 300 export shipment to arrive, waiting for the alliance to complete, and waiting for the crates to arrive.

Basically a shipment for 700 res. and a LOT of waiting

    OR

Expense of a 700 resource crate

Much less time and no villie seconds.

If I'm correct, the French do not seem to be useful in age, but are the other options OK?

very important to go to fortress.

i usually send my 4th or 5th card as 300 export.

and i make sure i build a consulate as soon as i send the card and then i ally with french and get food and gold crates which helps me to age up.

if i got food in excess i send for the gold crate and then ally with ottomans and get 4 settlers.

     indian consulate very good.

Export is derived from villagers gathering other resources. The more villagers you have, the faster you get export. You can also send a card for 300 export, and select faster gathering at the consulate, at the expense of slower resource collection.

Another question: Is swapping faster export for slower resource gathering decent? I noticed that for only a 10% decrease, export can gather 60% faster, What are people's thoughts on this?
