    Subject: Re: samurai vs. doppoler

In a 50 FU Samurai vs 50 FU Dopple fight, Dopples will win. With the Shogun and Daimyo present, the Samurai win. Simple as that.

Samurai are perhaps the most overhyped group ever. Wake up people, Samurai can't block bullets with a sword, they can't jump 60 feet high, they can't singlehandedly kill 200+ people at one time, and by no means are they invincible. I won't go into to much more detail about samurai because longknife has said most of what I was going to say.

Most people make claims that the Samurai's speed will win the fight, consider this. Samurai's sword technique is based on slashing, while a European's sword technique is based on stabbing and thrusting. Slashing leaves the attacker very exposed after attacking while thrusting keeps an enemy at bay and keeps them at the end of your weapon, where you want them. Think of how well slashing at your enemy would work in fencing, you would lose before the match really got started.

I don't know where the common misconception that Europeans were clumsy and poorly trained came from. The only poorly trained troops were those who used a crossbow or musket. Anyone carrying a sword, lance, bow, pike, halberd, or other melee weapon had to be very skilled and proficient to be worth his or her salt on the battlefield. As far as fighting peasants, that award definitely goes to Samurai.

clearly u havent considered inertia carefully. also, being able to move a sword faster + being able to react instantly as if it were instinct, you would stand a better chance at hitting ur opponent

anyway,  both come frm different parts of the world & have different cultures... thus, their armor & weapon were made to suit them best for that. if you let them fight in say... singapore, the jap guy would win cos dopples rely too much on their heavy equipment. for example: fire fighters were trained to do their rescuing with all those heavy stuff behind their back. they rely on them so much that when it comes to saving their own lives, they still carry all that load & try to run. *they got killed in the end*

clrealy some ppl havent watched enough anime. there are often cases where be the big guy owns the small guy too. besides, anime is not all abt samurais (those abt samurais are not always the best. *"naruto" is not abt samurais), they have comedy lyk "azumanga daioh!" (click here to watch) & tragic love stories lyk "school days" (click  here to watch)

By your logic (the line I bolded), if I fought a freaking starving African child in Africa, he'd win because we're on his home turf.

No, it doesn't work like that. Now if you all will just look around, and notice that the only people arguing that Samurais were stronger than Dopples, are those who have...uhhh, SAMURAI AS THEIR AVATARS, then you'd probably realize you all are speaking with bias, and that there's no such thing as "the doppleganger being your childhood hero" (Heck, I didn't know what one was til I played this game), and that the Samurai is the true childhood hero here. We only see one every flippin' time we broadcast a show from Japan. German TV never gets broadcasted worldwide, mainly because it sucks.

But as for in AOE, from what I've calculated, unless if the Dopple has some advantage over the samurai with his ability to hit more than one target at once, then the samurai has an advantage over the dopple, no matter how small it may be. And still, this is in situations with the Daiymo and Monks. Without the outside help, the two are dead even.

Samurais have more HP, more attack and more hand resist than a dopple, so in a straight out fight (or against artillery), samurais are better. Otherwise, the Doppel gets 50% more bonuses and thus has an advantage against cav and light infantry. Both are useless against upgraded Ranged Infantry tho.

my example which you highlighted refers to placing these guys on places where they are not used to. thats all. btw, japan is in the northern hemisphere while singapore is on the equator.

Yeah, but it's already been said that Dopples get upgraded more than Samurai do.

Plus actually I'm pretty sure they both have 230 at the start...Meh, go check for yourself.

Yeah, I guess the first point is true. But to be fair, in a 1v1 fight vs the two unupgraded units, the samurai would win, but otherwise the doppel would win.

And lol, ur right about the Hp too lol. Coulda sworn it was 200 tho...
