french is easy to play. you probably know how to distinguise NR cards from R cards? when it comes to gameplay, its kinda standard. french is one of the easiest civs to play. when it comes to fighting, make cuirrasiers, skirmishers and artillery. halberdiers and dragoons may also be good to make. make sure you have the thoroughbreds card, and the card that gives artillery units 25% more attack.... i dont know what else to suggest. fur trade of course is needed in NR games when youre playing as the french, so after you go to imperial age put all villies on millies (mills) and get furtrade 4-5min before end of treaty..

Ok that's it. This place sucks, I'm out.

    To get laid.

With Portugal; make as many settlers as possible, as fast as possible. Put more settlers on food than gold, because they are a food heavy nation. Organ guns with musketeers guarding them are good.

Lol, I remember when I first tried Ports repeatedly at treaty (back when I was a noob) Needless to say I conceded 16 losses in 20 games... and my win percentage went down about 50%... to 30%... It was just too easy to counter them with mass infantry back then.

But most people use LI for main unit, artileries and goons are secondary units which you dont make so many of them in most cases, cassadores cost 80 food 20 gold, so Ports is a food heavy civ.

whenever i play ports i always do 50/50 on food/coin with villagers and use factories to make wood during combat. If you max settler production and use the medicine card you should have all villagers by like 13-15 min. and then it's just upgrading eco, get age 5, and get spies asap.

Musketeers/cassadores/hussars/dragoons/mortar/horse cannons are the only units i upgrade as port. use musketeers if the enemy is cav heavy, if there are cannons in the brim it's wise to switch over or partially to goons. cassadores only worth using if there are a lot of infantry with them. cannons aren't often used, they're just a mean for countering the unguarded base if the enemy is pushing you. since horse cannons upgraded can easily reach 6.9 speed, which makes them hard to catch for even cavalry.

Ports long range mortars dominate. Use them a lot. Since their range is so long, they are easy to protect from culverins and cavalry. Long ranged mortars are probably the best thing about ports, so use them effectively.
