Subject: Something Wrong with AoE Asian Dynasties: Please Help!

Well. As I was installing AoE III I decided to get AoE III: The Asian Dynasties. While I was installing AoE The Asian Dynasties, while it was almost done an error occured stating that something was wrong with the sound pack for the Main Title.mp3. If anyone can help me how to fix this problem please leave comments or messages. Or email me at:

    red_koi_dragon@yahoo.com

    Thank You,

    Sincerly,

This sounds like a common installation problem where the installer cannot read a file from the disk.  Here are some general suggestions:

First simply make sure the disk and drive are clean and that you have the latest firmware/drivers for your optical drive.   If that fails this is what I suggest is to:

    • Reboot your computer with a "Clean Boot"
    • Make sure you have all the windows updates.
    • If you have XP verify you have the Windows installer 3.1 v2 service installed.
    • Browse to and empty your windows temp folder. You can find your temp folder by clicking start=> run, then type %temp%, click ok.
    • De-fragment your hard drive
    • Create a folder named TADinstall on your hard drive.
    • Then manually copy the contents of all the TAD disk into that TADinstall folder.
    • There will be a few small oddly named files on the first disk that will not copy over, that is normal and will not affect things.
    • Once everything has been copied over, browse to that TADinstall folder
    • Find and run the setup.exe located there. The TAD setup should begin.

Ok well I tried what you told me to do and it still does not work. I cleared my temp file and made a TADinstall folder on my hard drive. I then did "copy" to AoE Asian Dynasties [AOE3Y(D)] to that folder and then something pops up saying dat it can't copy like : 00002: or something like dat.

As I mentioned there will be some small files that will not copy, simply skip them when copying the disk.  Now if one of the .bar files will not copy or a file that has an extension that you recognize then there my be a physical problem with either the disk or your drive.
