I have a laptop running Vista which I installed age of empires 3 on.

However when I insert the disc, and press the play icon a box comes up saying (protection stubbed has stopped working).

What is this and how can I get the game to run.

Two suggestions:

(Add age3.exe into the DEP exception list)
Under "System" in Control Panel. Goto "System Protection". Under Adnaced Tab, click on Settings under Performance. Click on Data Execution Prevention tab and add the age3.exe into the exception list. Then click ok.

(Run the game as administrator)
If you got error about writing logs in the AOE3 directory, right click on the shortcut. Under the Compatibility tab, check the "Run this program as administrator". Then click ok.

Thanks ES_Paragon, However I deleted the DEP file as it was not allowing me to use messenger and to connect to the internet.

So as I say I deleted the file and now I can connect, the file considered that by connecting to the internet it would put the computer at risk so stopped me.

I tried to click on Run this program as administrator but the the window comes up as greyed out but with one thing ticked (Run in seperate memory space) I have the option to tick the box to run as admistrator but as I said its greyed out ! and I dont know how to highlight to tick it.

Help please.

I have found that if I click on medal of honor I have the choice to start the game in administrator but not in age of empires.

You can right click the application and hit "Run as administrator".
