Subject: Re: Graphics Compatibility Thread V3

Ok since this is a "graphics" thread and it seems to be getting a steady flow of activity I have a question that I hope that you all can assist me in.

Currently for about a month I have been playing AoE 3 Asian Dynasties but 99% of the time while I am playing the game craps out.  Now what I mean by this is my sound still works because I can hear the game in the background and my computer is still running but I get a chopped up view on my screen and I can't play anymore.  This has started to become increasingly frustrating mainly because I cannot enjoy my game.

The fact that the only thing not working is my monitor leads me to think that the problem lies with my graphics card but it runs all my other games fine.

Anyway any help is much appreciated,

My abbrev. specs are as follows:
    nVidia Geforce 8800 GT (PCI - E)
    300GB Harddrive space
    3 gigs Ram
    2.00 GHz processor (dual core)

     Please help me!!!!

     Chief

is your game fully updated and do you have the latest drivers for your gfx card?

is your graphics card overclocked? it could be a heat issue, even if its fine in other games i no aoe3 doesn't like overclocked hardware

I actually made my own topic entitled "help my game keeps crashing".  My story is in there.  Also my graphics card isn't overclocked and my system isn't overheating.

Weird thing is that only the asian dynasties wont play.  AoE 3 and the warchiefs expansion are fine.

    hi again all....\

so right now  i have a 8800gt ko 512 mb right now. i was thinking about getting another to use SLI and have dual graphics cards but is that really worth it? and if i did would it be equal to a 9800gx2? i may not need the extra 8800gt. any way i play games like aoe3 and crysis just so you can get a idea of what i use it for.i paly crysis on high mainly and may get and dual boot vista 64 bit so i can use the sandbox editor and so i canuse ultra high. i also always have the option to use tha hack thatallows the very high. but anyway tell me your input.

2 8800gt's in SLI wont be as powerful as the 9800gt2, however they would be more powerful than the 9800gtx and 8800ultra.

with aoe3 you wouldn't notice any performance difference as it doesn't support sli, however you should notice a big improvement in crysis.

i currently have the crysis sandbox running on xp 32bit fine, however crysis has been shown to play very well on a 64bit OS.

if i were you id be looking at upgrading your processor first as a 4200+  is going to bottleneck 2x 8800's, the cheapest and easiest way would be to just buy a higher clock speed athlon (5600+ or better) but for serious gaming the best option would be to buy a new motherboard and an intel core 2 duo.

oh whoop sorry about that. . those are my old computer specs.i have  right now a m2n-sli deluxe and avbout 4 gigs of ram. also my prossessor is a 6000+so gthat is mostly up to date. .l...sorry about that. i am going to change my sig once i can figure it out again ( forgot lol)

withthose changes would my compuer be able to handle 2 8800gt?

Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2
    ~A8N32-SLI Deluxe
~NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GT 256.0 MB (soon be GeForce 8800GT)
    ~AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+, MMX, 3DNow (2 CPUs), 2.2GHz
    ~1024MB RAM (soon 4GB)

yes if your power supply is powerful enough, i reckon a 600w branded psu with 2x pci-e power connecotrs would be sufficient

So I purchased AOE3 5 days ago. I've installed it with no issues. My problem is that I gwt no video, just a black screen. I've adjusted my resolution and refresh rate. No luck. This is frustrating. My old XP system kept crashing out after 5 minutes of gameplay,so I bought a new system and now I get no video, just sound. I've updated all the drivers, system, graphics, game. No luck.

    Here's the specs;

Windows Vista 32-bit, AMD dual core 4800+ 2.5ghz, 2gb ddr, 400gb hd, GeForce 6150se nForce 430, 26" Sharp Lcd Monitor.

Any help or suggestions you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated.

What exact problems are you getting. Are you unable to play the game or is it just the movie in the start up?

get a actual graphics card, the 6150se (as far as i know) is integrated, and is much worse than offboard graphics card.

the one you should get depends on your budget, but anything over a 7600GT would be enough, if you can afford, a HD4850 is a great choice

    upgrade time...

i plan on changing my monitor to a 24" or thereabouts 1920x1200 res and my current graphics card is a measly 8800gts 320mb. im figuring this wont quite cut it but what do you reckon would be enough to run on max settings

8800gt? HD4850? the cheaper the better im afraid

the 8800gt would run aoe3 fine, max setting at that res, but the 4850 would be better if your playing more modern games aswell
