with gfx card do you have?

i have a 8600gt with 256Mb, it's about the same as a HD2600 with 512Mb and i max the game out on 1280x1024 easily

 

I have a 8600GTS superclocked 256Mb gfx card. Max's the game fine on 1680x1050 LOVE the screen resolution makes the game look entirely diferent thatn on a 1280x1024.

the 8600gts is about 40% better than the 2600, not 3x

for a laptop the 2600 is a very good card =]

OK I wasn't just guessing random numbers. I found that on a website doing comparisons on how different cards run different games. 8600GTS is 3X better.

i saw some benchmarks, the 8600gt IS faster than the Hd2600, but the differences usually are around 30-40%, is some cases it's 100% and in some, it's the same

The 8600GTS is different than the 8600GT also it makes a difference that mine is a "superclocked" version.

sorry, it was a typo, i mean gts.

also, the superclocked version doesn't increase the performance that much, it's around 10% on most cases

Well either way the power of the GTS is irrelevant since he is happy with what the GC that comes with his laptop will be able to do.

But I still believe the 8600GTS is a great value for the money It was specifically rated as a good performer for FSX.

both 8600s are great cards, they aren't best best performers, but on price/performance, it's hard to beat these cards(at least when i bought mine 1 year ago) and price/perform is very important to me, as stuff here is 3 or 4 times more expensive than in US and Europe

The only thing I'm unsure of, about this laptop, is that it has Windows Vista.

are you sure you can't get XP? contact the store, maybe they can sell you the laptop with XP, or maybe with some Linux, i think if it comes with Linux, you can install XP over it, but i'm not sure

I'm gonna see if I could get XP instead. But, I think they're gonna say they only have Vista. Cuz like most comps now have Vista

Superclocked is a factory overclocked card from one of the manufacturers(i think it's Evga's)

actually aoe3 has few troubles with overclock, as long as the card is stable.

BTW, the 9800gt is a nice card, it's still expensive, but if you can afford, and your comp doesn't bottleneck it, go either for it or for the HD4850

it's biggest problem is the big power consumption(not sure about the HD4850 tho)

... there isn't, i was thinking about the 9800GTX when i wrote that...
