Subject: Making the Dutch Usable in Treaties (Burger King strategy)

I've been thinking of a way to make the dutch have a good late game without using boats, and I've come up with this eco strategy to help satisfy both the dutch demand for food and gold. Forgive me if this has been tried before.

It is called the 'Burger King Strategy'. Instead of having 30-ish villagers on food and 10 on a plantation, I think I've found way to have 20 villagers on a plantation and still satisfy the demand for food while still keeping 10 people on wood.

Put the Plantation and Refridgeration cards in your deck. This eco strategy will revolve mostly around cows, so these are the only food-related eco cards that you will need. Get a livestock pen early-ish and have cows tasked on the livestock pen after activating the Ranching card (unless it is hindering your need for anything else of course.) Instead of going straight to work on the cows, make a farm RIGHT NEXT to the livestock pen so you are close to them. Let the cows fatten; once they are fattened, eat away. Ideally, you will need only 20 or so villagers for food if you can micro this well enough. This frees up 5-10 villies for anything else you need (in addition to some farm cards if you want), whether it's wood, gold, or building. Also, I like two have two farms with a livestock pen next to each, and alternate between the two in cow production and cow consumption.

This strategy is in developing stages. If anyone else thought of this strategy before me, credits to them. If I am not clear, please ask me to refrain. I will answer any questions.

There are some cons to this strategy; the resources needed to set this up can be draining. It may not work mid-game for rushes.

I love livestock pens! I've done something like that with the Dutch, but I haven't tried to totally rely on livestock. (I should try sometime)

It seems like the British have the best potential for livestock however, they have 2-3 additional livestock upgrade cards in their HC.

I'm very sure livestock gather food more quickly, however, I do not know how much quicker it is.

I have. Your on the right track, but there's some things you could do to improve it.

First off, screw the farm. You won't need it. Your going to rely just on cows. Your going to need to last on hunts untill the 4th/5th age. If you can last untill the 5th age, that's best. (But most maps you can't do that) If all else fails use your market to get food to advance/make cows.

So when you know your not going to be able to hunt eventually, make a livestock pen and make 10 cows. Then send a villager to your allies base and make another livestock pen. Have the cows sent to where they'll become your allies, thus avoiding the 20 pop max. Make anywhere from 50-80 cows that way, and have your ally send them to your base and have them gater on more livestock pens.

If you don't have allies, you'll have to mix in sheep too. But keep in mind, if you used just sheep you'd end up with the same eco as using farms.

Later in the game when you start getting low on cows, you'll have to mix in sheep too. Unless you want to hassle your ally with sending you more.

    Benefits to this:

     1. I can get 5-10k more food with 15 villagers, 5 less than I would use on farms.

    2. This allows you to put 20-30 villagers on gold. Getting you much needed gold.

    3. This only requires the livestock card, so you can get all those plantation cards asap, since you won't have to use those 3 or so cards benefitting farms.

I used to get 1350-1450 with dutch, now I can easily get 1600+ at the 40 minute mark.

Oh I just realized this wasn't necessarily for a nr40 game.
