Re: Recklessly placed manors
Wilson_teh_Great:
When I play as Brits I tend to build my manor houses in incrediably dangerous places, along the perimeter of my base, in the middle of chokepoints and sometimes in the middle of the map. Why? It's because that mid-game, if the enemy destroys those manors it will help my boom. And when they attack my manors, I know their troop movements and what units they have. It also gives me line of sight on the map, preventing raids.
Am I being wise or foolhardy? Is building my manors on the frontlines good or bad?
That's what you're supposed to do, make a LOS wall around your colony with manors.

Re: Recklessly placed manors
ROFL at most of this thread. EDIT, I've posted before this was locked. :) Wilson, that's a smart thing to do, most brit players do spread their manors around for LOS and defensive town structure. Your opponent would be a fool to waste time attack a Manor. A good range of LOS and giving problems to cav is always a great thing to do, good job. An extra villie is always welcome.

Re: Recklessly placed manors
Tomo_Tanker:But you'd have to spend another 135 wood. If you want LOS in the center of the map, just build 1 block of a wall, you know, the end thingys on a wall. It only costs 5 wood en you have a little pillar that gives you LOS. Why would you pay 135 for a villager, when you can also build 1 for 100 food? You're probably gonna say that you send Vriginia Company, but still, wood gathers slower than food, so you will still have lost vill secs.
\
Because you need the population and you get the villagers much faster by building manors?
And no one uses virginia company

I use it, because manors cost about half the price from it.

Re: Recklessly placed manors
I agree on the "block of a wall" as it is a very good thing to do for LOS and also as the other player might be using Attack move from a long distance and when doing so this army will not walk past but stop to attack this small wall block. As the game progresses you can use this block if still standing to build to it gaining larger map control eg, placing close to herds and mines on great plains is a plus to your LOS. Then when wood is plentiful build towers on those spots.
Manors are best built in and around your main area of control to aid your longbows to keep their distance.
What we lack in quality, we make up for in stupidity.

LOL @ Yoheme discussion, and the "No Homo" conversation... lol. But yeah.. I haven't encounter a british player to be using such tactic... But it sounds fun and mind boggling. I wonder can the same be done with the Chinese Village for a Boxer Rebellion Rush?
