Use dragoons/ruyters/cav archers if you are on great plains.

Infantry trains too slow to be any good against a war wagon rush, ranged cavalry trains instantly.

And as your ranged cavalry is in combat, make a barracks, and start making ranged infantry.

the problem with making RI to counter is that the other player will almost certianly have artillery as well. And ww + art > RI

i would say make mostly LC (ruyters, cav archers dragoons etc.) some RI and some culverins for cannons. with maybe some halbers (or equivelant good HI) to flank.

The only thing that can beat a gendarme is spahi, which are never fielded in enough numbers. French Curraissiers can beat anything because of France's noob capabilities. Firstly, France has the second most possible military population (without sacrificing economy) in the game to field a vast number of curraissiers even though they are 3 pop. (Reminds me of the days curaissiers could be made for 2 pop) That means 40 curraissiers can be fielded while most civs can only mass 50 hussars........ Next the French have easy economy with second best villies in the game and the economy that has second to least villager population take up in game. 80 couer de bois= 99 vills and leaves 120 military pop!

Matchup vs. Germans means:

French have better eco unless Germans go pure settler wagons (later dm game)

French Curaissiers number 40 against Germany's 33 War Wagons (and even less WW if Germany wants better eco than France.) Plus French have almost every different unit in the game to mix in with their curaissiers .

According to all the circumstances that could occur during a game, its hard to say who would win. However, the noobiness of the French gives them the up and over umph against the Germans for the win.

If you start fighting in deathmatch after both you and your opponent have created all vills then you're doing something wrong and you may as well play treaty...

gendarmes dont beat wws unless the wws are heavily outnumbered and the wws arent microed

If yr playing japo, yumi +samurais will rock those wagons and watever is hiding under there lol. Esp when u have the long range upgrade fr yumis. Its funny seeing those wagons drop away one by one and expose his army for a nag/ashi assault.
