Subject: I mean... Just plain LOL

Ok, so nothing exciting or anything, just a bit funny/ironic/sad.

So after playing loads of ffa, I decided to get back into 1v1. Just to let you guys know I'm a 1st lt. pr 24.

So anyway, I do a 1v1 unrated; I'm Japanese and my opponent is Chinese. It's on Bayou. When we get to colonial, I push in early with ashis, he holds, we go back and forth a bit until he completely overwhelms my army. He pushes into my base and then stops just outside. He amasses his forces and ages to third. If he pushed as soon as he overwhelmed me I would have been toast. I start to make cav, as he has lots of xbow. I keep pumping the ashigarus til I have about 70, and I age. This guy then starts whittling away the forward part of my base with hand mortars, so I decide its now or never. I push in and absolutely **** his units (he didn't make enough anti cav, my ashis ripped his few pikes apart).

I use informers and see he has nothing left so I push and it's gg. Before he quits, he says: "OP as usual". I mean, I thought this was quite sad. He had the advantage and because he made a mistake he lost, not because Japan is OP. Any thoughts?

Sometimes you just don't have enough force to take down someone completely, if you expect TC-fire + some sort of minutemen.

A part of OP Japan is that they can build alot more units in alot less time once they get going, so if he just didn't have enough units to completely kill you, then it's not strange that he waited outside of your base. Normally that would drain someone's eco enough, since they can't get any hunts anymore.

But Japan doesn't use hunts, only for Shrines. So yes, it probably was a bit because of OP Japan.

He did though. I had zero units and he had about 30 xbows, 10 pikes, 5 rattans and 10 cav. He just chose to stay back and wait for age 3.

I also play Chinese and if I had that army I also wouldn't atk, I'd just keep pressuring.

The problem is: how to pressure Japan if they have no need to hunt? It makes things much harder.

Your opponenent was just waiting for his favorite units to come join the main army, or else he just gave you another chance ... well, he lost the 2nd and final round...you won... happens a lot

Some players play really aggressively and push through whenever they have the chance, others don't and start massing an army to completely overwhelm you with superior forces, which asks for a lot less microing...

The thing is... what to use instead of hunts? I'd already set up 2 cherry orchards. I understand not needing to use hunts, but that means I can't gather as fast from rice paddy anyway. I had 2 up.

The guy made 1 forward war academy, he could have pumped out much more troops, but he didn't. He also fell victim to poor scouting; if he had have scouted he would have seen me using the mines on the side his army wasn't standing.

it happens often enough that the presence of a big army in your opponent's base is enough to demoralize them into resigning.

the last game I played, both enemies did just that because of a strong numerical advantage in their base (we never even destroyed their TC, but most of their military buildings were toast).

I figure, just go ahead and push!

Japan has shrines to make up for the lack of hunting.

I'm not saying that he deserved to win, as I didn't see the game, I'm just saying that it's still hard to beat Japan.

hey you know what i have noticed that japan is kinda slow early on,,,,,,the best strategy against japan is a good rush.....and keep the fighting going on inside his town....that forces him to garrison his villies.......and since he cant hunt..its gg

and yes shrines cant provide him with enough resources to keep the fight going on.........i always try to fight around his orachards  and always send few horses to keep a check on the nearby berry bushes
