my location is intended to take advantage of the russian reversal "joke", which is not usually funny anymore...

but i ain't changing it anytime soon.

Even in countries like Australia, where we are supposed to have "freedom" of speech and "freedom" of opinion, there's some kind of ridiculous nationalist mob mentality wherein saying one word against the country (or even the "culture" of "watch football, drink beer") will have you labelled un-Australian and told that you don't deserve to live here... And even then, our government's moving towards controlling what we can do on the internet, under the strawman of stopping paedophiles, who will, of course, have an easy way around the filter system (which, might I add, was avoided in the test phase by a 15-year old boy). Still, at least I can technically say what I want. Some people don't even have that.

I have the latest official patch, so is it worth it to get the fan patch? How does the fan patch affect online play? Can I reverse once I implement it at any point?

if you get the fanpatch, it must be the version FP 1.1a . yes you can switch between the offical patch and the FP within a minute.

if it is worth it? seriously only if you know a group of people who play on it, the fp itself is very very inactive, like any mod/fanpatch is for this game, but the fp came way closer to being popular than anything else at some point of time

1. why did you bump this thread?

2. why are you talking about an outdated patch?

Probably because I am more interested in historical accuracy, at least with weapon effects and ship balance than I am with worrying about trying to make the game absolutely balanced.

Because the fan patch takes away all the unique aspects of certain civs. Aside from the unit names and pictures, they are all the exact same, talking in terms of attack, HP, etc.

If I wanted to play a game with no unique civs or units I would have stuck with AOE1 or 2 because although some units like Ashi may be OP trying to counter them just adds more depth and strategy and excitement to the game.
