Age of Empires Forums

The next "Age of" game will most likely be a sequel to Age of Mythology. It's the idea that makes the most sense because of its practicality to RE's current situation as a brand new company. Bruce Shelley said in one of his blogs that a WWI/WWII AoE game would be too controversial, so the second most likely game to be made would be an AoE1 remake. It's too soon to make an AoE2 one. Even if RE-or Bonfire Studios, they also hold a piece of ES-decided to go for WWI/WWII they would need a lot more time to work out the controversial issues and also to redesign the AoE formula-integrating planes, tanks and submarines. Overall the whole concept of this type of game is very complicated, and companies that haven't even released any games yet can't afford that length of development period. Age of Mythology was very popular during its time and more highly acclaimed than AoE3. If I were apart of either company I would definitely stress the consideration of a sequel as the company's first game.

An AOM 2 qould be best, AOE1 remake second best. I would not buy an AOE set in WW1 or WW2 or after 1900.

I have nothing against it being on 20th century. I think this game is too good to have a bad sequel, so if there is another Age of Empires or another Age of Mythology it will very probably be good.

nah, if they make another AOE thats in the 20 century than it would be another whole game series.... it just would be... age of empires ... it would be halo wars

More like 13 but anyhow.

Rephrase it- I was inactive for one week and this place get overrun by noobs.

All of this talk about RE making AOE4 is pretty futile considering it's likely to never happen.. But assuming *anyone* makes AOE4, I would personally prefer it to be a remake of AOE2 with the Celts, Vikings, Teutons, Franks, Brits, Persians, etc. I was rather disappointed when AOE3 was based during the colonial period with gunpowder units but I actually enjoy the gameplay despite the glaring balance issues with every patch.
