Re: Japanese Boom Help
The best boom with Japan requires a British teammate for three reasons. One is cows, which gather better than sheep. The second is team gathering, which affect shrines. The third is team distillery, which gives you a 15% gold boost from paddies.
If you are alone then you have to rely on hunts, which gather at a low rate. The best maps for single-player land Japan treaty are Texas, Mongolia, and Deccan as you can catch cows. Deccan also has a goat shipment that you can get.
In an Andes test boom with few hunts at which to place shrines I got 1700:

You might watch this boom and see if you can do the same.

Re: Japanese Boom Help
heavenly kami + port consulate for shrine boom. make shrines near hunts dont worry if its at the edge of your building radius theyre easy to remake and worth it for your boom. gather the resource thats FU. dont have 50 vils on paddies gathering gold when you havent sent your gold cards. market upgrades, dont get them for resources you arent gathering. get them for resources you are gathering.... so at begininning when youre gathering food for aging, and wood for shrine booming, get the wood, foos, and the general resources market upgrades from market. skip gold for then. etc etc. cance port consulate once you layed foundation for 2 extra TC's then get dutch. keep dutch til last 7 minutes or so of treaty so you can get spain then jap. watch a rec :P 1500 is not bad you jsut got 200 points to go ^^p

Re: Japanese Boom Help
Storm's advice is dead on. Here is a boom that follows it and gets about 1950.

You will note that the Consulate has been switched to Japanese Isolation but is in process -- get the 10 block train ASAP. Both the Shogun and Diaymo are out and the fast-train card for them is on it's way. I've chosen a ranged-cav deck so have not upgraded Nags, but they can be later if needed. The few Sam's are still not quite Imperial but other than them everything else at the front is.
Right now the shrines are on wood. They are somewhat vulnerable but can be moved and/or walled as needed. The resource distribution reflects Japan's best standard unit, the Ashi. However, one or two paddies might need to be switched to gold in a few minutes.
Of course, in a real game I would have put more on wood and built more barracks, etc. I was seeing how fast the wood came in with shrines on hunts alone. Japan really needs cows -- with cows you should be able to boom well over 2000 with a bit of practice.

Re: Japanese Boom Help
I play Ports a lot where the Cassadores cost more food. Looking at the Ashis I find that they cost 80 food and 40 gold. Leaving a bit more gold for the Yabis and some wood for the arrows a good distribution would be 60% food, 30% gold, and 10% wood. Since about 100k total resources were gathered in the boom it would be 60/30/10.
Remember, however, that you are not collecting resources evenly throughout the boom or after it. You go food first as you need it to get the settlers out and that is what you have upgraded first. You stay on food until you get the wood-chopping and coin-gathering upgrades. If you have a lot of food at the start this is no problem -- food is the resource you use most and it only takes a few seconds to switch paddies to gold. Admittedly, the boom needs some more wood but shrines are on wood. This was an Ashi/Yabi deck. If you want to go, say, Yumi/Yabi then you will need considerably more wood.
Japan is a civ where you have to pick a unit-specific deck and plan a boom accordingly. Unlike just about any other civ it's the one where you actually have to make some important strategic decisions at game start.

Re: Japanese Boom Help
not really. ashi yumi arrows is the key to any japan play. only card you need to switch depending on the way you play is the nagi boosts or the yabusame boosts. and you did just food lame to get a high score. balance out the resources correctly and it would probly be average at best

Re: Japanese Boom Help
same score as metis, but a bit more balanced. http://trt-aoe3-clan.twilightlegend.com/t30-allbinx-s-jap-boom I've tried, and you pretty much cant go low wood with jap or you''ll never ever keep up with your yumi costs. But I do get that you were going for a ashi flame yab build or whatver metis, so thats fine but yumi are facking op so why not use xD Nice one ageien xD i dont think i get more then 1800 tbh
