is there any civ that can stand up to france on nr40? i mean honestly? volguieters kill anything that gendrames don't and they have wicked eco. the best i've found is russia because they can spam musk and halbs all day long to down gendrames and 1 pop cossacks can sometimes get to the volguietiers. however i still usually lose. so is a 1v1 against france in nr40 an option really?

I've found Brits and Ports have a pretty unstoppable eco.

Ports - 6 TCs with medicine... vills flood out.  Also, Jinettes peck off gendarmes like they were xbows, and cassadores have more range than skirms, so hit and run the gendarmes with drags then bring in cassadores and hussars to finish off the voltiguers.

Brits - Have decent ranged cav.  But their hussars are superb.  Pick off the gendarmes with drags and decimate the voltiguers with royal guard hussars.  Also, they have a card that lets them tran villagers out of their manors... OMG that is SO op... 20 manors and 3 TCs with vills coming out you could hit 99 in 3 mins if all your vills got killed

There have been numerous threads on this.  France is the best civ.  Not many civs can match up to it.  I can see Port holding France off when played off andes or no nats on andes.  Otherwise, Frace dominates.

idk why ppl dont mention germany...dopple and WWs pwn cuirs and the rest of german's army is good too

For some reason I don't see many people playing germans any more, so I havent learned how to use them well... :(

This thread is super pointless. The thread poster could have answered this himself by looking at a legit op list, looking down one civ, see japan, and understand that the 2nd most op civ would be the best against them. Otherwise France!

well just because a civ is overall "better" then one civ doesn't mean it could take it 1v1. some civs just don't do well vs others, even if they aren't op (russia vs aztecs). personally i think japan has no shot vs france anytime i see japan i go france and almost always win.  

Of course Japan doesn't have a shot vs France, no civ does. But its your best choice imo.

maybe spain... but french eco is so much better that its still hard.

Skirm/gend/nat > skirm/lancer/nat. In addition, France can whore cannons.

i think port has best chance , gud dragoon and gud musk for gend , cas>volt , op mortors to push , port has gud cannons (france too have) 

I think Cass = Voltigures.

Port are really just average. In theory it would be Japan, but tbh I don't have a lot experience with them, and also Japan is considered bad in a 1 vs 1, and in a team game, I don't know if you would put japan in the natives vs france over a civ like spain or germans.

I REALLY REALLY think you should leave the advice to the pros.
