If you mean slow colonial then why not just send 300 food or something in age 1?

By slow, they mean that it takes a while for the strat to develop, which is why often they play defensively. Their aging time to colonial is decent, but the very nature of the civ puts them on the defensive a lot of the times, which, combined with the slow shipment speed, makes them UP.

Ports are weird. Probably one of the best civs to go with water, but say on GP they get beaten in a lot of MUs. Their colonial play on RE patch is pretty bad compared to other civs, and a straight FF will end up hurting you a lot more than them.. Huss semi takes a while to get going too. Defensively, they're great. It's just too hard to get a decent early colonial game out of ports, which makes their game plan quite predictable.

They simply don't gather enough resources fast enough to be immune to rushes.

Port gather rates are fine and having the extra tc helps eco and is really really nice for defense. It just takes a while to get their eco going, and it's difficult to sustain a musk/huss type combo with the extra tc worth of vill.

When you get to age 3, you have 3 tcs worth of vills to produce. On top of that, your skirm is very expensive. Without the musk/inf cards in age 2/3, your muskets aren't really worth it until age 4, and by that time a skiirm/goon combo is better.

The only advantage that ports get in age 2 is an extra TC. Actually, that's a disadvantage, cause ur not gonna have enough food to pump out 2 settlers at a time.
