Age of Empires Gold Edition not playing.

I just bought an Age of Empires Gold Edition disc from amazon. I installed the game, started the game got to the menu screen. Tied to play single player but, it comes up with I need a game disc. But I only have the one disc for Age of empires gold Edition. Was I sold a nock off?

ok so i have the age of empires cd but whenever i put it in the cd-rom and start single player it says that i have to insert the game cd to start but the cd is inside the rom I tried to reinstall it but the problem still persists can someone please help :(

There have been many forums dedicated to an Aoe4 on this site. We ALL share this desire and see the potential. I ask you to recall the famous scene in Robin Hood (the 1990 version not the recent gay remake) when the Hero says in response to the fear from the hoard “What is it that we need that the forest cannot provide?”

In other words – Man up! Be positive! Let’s take some ownership here! We have what we need right here (In-house talent/resources)

I KNOW that with Musketeer, Metis, and a few others we HAVE the technical ability to take the existing AOE3 software engine, make the changes we want to it in terms of reprogramming and make Age of Empires Four (AOEF) properly – the way it SHOULD be made!! For forums administrator I guess we could let Jerom handle it. It would involve incorporating the changes that have been proposed on several threads here, and some other balancing tweaks such as changing the melee damage area for cuirassier to maybe somewhere between 1.5-1.8 instead of 2.0 and perhaps allowing the Explorer and maybe even his dog to ‘merge’ with the Fort in late game combining the hitpoints and damage of both for a very uber-building like the AOE equivalent of the deathstar. Also the new ability to construct ‘bridges’ across water … which has been widely recognized is a miss in AOE3.

Would you guys be willing to help with this? For starting money we could go with donations from all interested –and then go public with shares. We would need some higher ranks to test civ’s for balancing but I and GS could help with that. Lets get this puppy up and running and get it back on WCG for 2013!! Is this timeline too aggressive? Let me know so I can adjust schedule/resources if required. Willie—can I count you in? I also need Irja to work on new taunts.

I just got aoe 2 hd and it seems to be a bit lagy (mostly the mouse, trying to select units) anyone have a fix for that, besides a new comp?

I've been playing AOM since I was 7 and I'm 13 now, I'm still playing it. I love it, it's on my top 10 favorite games of all time, along with the Portal series, Super Mario World, the Uncharted series, and a few other games.

Anyway, I'm a huge fan of AOM and I'd love to see if it could be revived. AOE II is getting an HD re-release on Steam, so why not AOM? The graphics on AOM are better than on the original AOE II, so an HD re-release for AOM is completely possible and not that hard to make.

Please make it happen Microsoft, PLEASE.

Of course, I'm also waiting for things that are a lot more impossible like AOM II, which could have a story which follows up to the story on AOM, maybe Kastor's son? And of course, AOE IV, which could either follow up the story of AOE III, tell the story of Philip Black, or have a new story all together.

I know I'm expecting a lot that might never happen, but it would be awesome.

The final battle with Good Old Aoe2

Greetings Aoe community!

Since Aoe2HD will be released in just a few days(I can't wait), and since many people requested Aoe2 videos in my Aoe3 Campaign topic, I decided to record my final battle with the original version of Aoe2. About the video: I played a 1v1 battle against a Medium AI(it has been a long time since I last played this game...) with the Teutons, while my opponent was Persian. It was a pretty nice battle(although I accidentally forgot to change the game mode to conquest), even though the game had some compatibility issues(since I'm on Win7), but the only issue with the recording was the crash at the end of the battle before the stats, but believe me, it looked much more uglier for me, but at least I could play it :D

I've played through GameRanger some but there aren't many people there (around 15-30 at most any given time) and I was wondering if theres a better place to play with more people, i've heard some about some ESO thing or another, but I don't know what that is or where to find it. So basically I'm asking where I can play with more people if I can.

Ok, so the civilizations I use are Portuguese mostly, sometimes German, and occasionally Spanish or Ottoman. But I don't really think that part matters pertaining to this except maybe for Ottoman.

My main objective is to get to colonial age first and have lots of villagers. I constantly make villagers, at first the majority of them working on food first to have enough to purchase another villager once the timer thingy for the one before is up.

However, if I just do that, it takes too long to get an extra 800 food for colonial, I'm often rushed and game over by then.

So, i'd have to either gather food for only colonial at first, or get some villagers and then stop villager production while I aged up. What I'm wondering is, how many villagers should I make (If any) before I gather food solely for colonial?

Problem with AOE2:TC 1.0c

I'm using windows 7 64-bit.

To solve the weird color problem I created a batch file that restarts windows explorer upon launching the game. This worked just fine with version 1.0, but with 1.0c it tells me I need to insert the correct CD-rom. However I do have the cd rom in the drive, and I can't run the game at all except directly from the cd. And running it from the cd gives me the weird colors.

How can I solve this problem? I also want to play multiplayer so I can't modify my original .exe file for the game.

I have installed the AOE1 gold,and I found there is a v1.0c patch on this website( http://www.microsoft.com/games/empires/downloads.htm)

I checked EMPIRES.EXE of the gold, its version is 1.0b .

Gold Edition=latest and final version, I think this is a common sense.

is it necessary to do this patch(v1.0c) for AOE1 gold edition???

Proposal for the next Age of Empires game

Dear Age of Empires,

I am an Age of Empires fan. As you may know there is a fan campaign to remake Age of Empires 2. We really miss the medieval theme. Personally I love the periods from 1, 2 and 3, ancient to colonial, so in my dreams I would want a remade Age of Empires trilogy whereby each period is played separately. The following are suggestions improvements to the original games that we as fans would be forever grateful if you could include in a new game. I am speaking for many people out there as well as myself.

Maps- Map editor whereby the maximum size of map is bigger than in other games. I would suggest much bigger, perhaps 50-100 times the size in order to give a feeling of scale over the players imperial ambitions. The maps should have lots of zoom to see from a far distance from the sky as well as close up between buildings and trees and fields and cliffs etc with lots of graphical detail. You should be able to rotate around the map and all objects on the map. The much larger map should not have dead ends, instead it should take a global form whereby you can continue going round in a sphere. The mini map in the corner of the screen should have the cities plotted with titles.

Map size should be an option as some may still want smaller sizes.

Units- Much higher population limits. You should be able to have armies of thousands, preferably tens of thousands or more. This would suit the increased space and be way more epic. There should be more of a Total War type approach to battles. There should be increased ability to organize troops in battle, and perhaps the location of a battle can affect the outcome on one side or another. Although an option to send troops into battle and let them do as they please could also be an option. Essentially it would be the same as now but if you want to put in the extra time to organize your troops strategically and have them do EXACTLY what you command then you should. Once again you can zoom in and out of military units and good animation should happen close up. Population limit should be an option as some may still want smaller numbers.

Conquest- Traditionally you conquer by destroying an opposition. There should be that option as well as an option to occupy a settlement. So if you occupy a settlement you would see your troops march up and down the enemy settlement. They can send reinforcements from another one of their settlements when they feel they time is right, therefore you may have to keep sending reinforcements to maintain the occupation. So have a choice to absorb as well as destroy. I also would want there to be an improved trade emphasis whereby you can dominate in trade and this dominance can have some affect on the threat of the enemy that you are richer than, eg if you dominate them in fishing then with regard to fishing you can make life difficult for them.

Settlements/towns- There should be more ability to plan the settlement you build, in terms of positions of buildings. With bigger maps there should be more scope to plug your settlement into the surroundings more comfortably, for the sake of organizing the flow of resources and for defence. There should be reason to build several settlements and spread, rather than one major centre that is the base of operations and if that's destroyed, its over. You should be encouraged to build on vacant land and grab those resources and require a several local settlements to best soak up the goodies on those lands and spread the population of your civilization. You should be able to select all buildings in a settlement and title the town/city eg London or Paris. Zooming into towns should give you a good view of villagers working and going about there lives. You should be able to be extravagant and have customizable building appearances to suit your character as well as making your own monuments/wonders/statues.

In conclusion you would absorb elements from The Settlers, Total War and Civilization whilst retaining the beautiful real time mechanics of Age of Empires. In essence this would be bar far the greatest strategy game ever conceived. Please respond to this letter with your thoughts.

AoE 2 expansion multiplayer problems

First, sorry if this is in the wrong section, wasn't sure if it technically belonged here or in tech support, but here we go. A friend of mine and I have been playing AoE 2 expansion online constantly for some time now, but for one reason or another, it stopped working just today. Nothing has changed on either of out ends in terms of settings, but now neither of us can read each other's games when we host, they don't even show up. Our firewalls and even antispyware are turned off, we have our ports forwared, both the TCP/UDP 2300-2400 and the 47624, and I even tried setting up my DMZ, though I am not 100% sure I did it completely right. Regardless, we both spent hours combing various forums searching for answers and have come up dry. We did read about another program called gameranger, but last time we tried an external program we had some issues, so we are a bit sketchy on trying anything.

Anyway, if anyone has any answers, we would love to hear them, as we hate to think about losing this game. If you need more information to figure anything out I'll try to provide it. And again sorry if this is in the wrong area; I'm not much of a forumer.

Hi, I recently downloaded the game onto my computer which has Windows 7. The problem I'm having is that when I run the game, the cinematics all play fine, but when I get to the Main Menu I can't see it cause the screen is like a grey mess, it's like if an old tv didn't have a signal, been trying to get an answer on Google, but nothing, just seen a guy with the same problem but he didn't get an answer.

AOE Single Player Random Map Settings

Hi,

I would like to know how I can change a few of the default settings when I select Random Map for a Single player. I am really tired of always setting to Map Size to Huge, Victory Condition to Conquest, and Resources to High. It would be nice to not to have to do that all the time. I always use these settings. It would be nice if the default could be changed. I have been searching for the file they might be in, but can't find them. I have "googled" as well and I cannot find there either. I have found other great stuff, but nothing to tell me where these settings are stored. I know it is not a text file, but I have other tools that I can use to modify other file types, and I have done it before for several games, so I am sure it could be done if I could just fine the location of these settings.

Does anybody have any clue on where these settings are located? What file?

I hope somebody can help.

So I picked up AOE, AOE Rise of Rome, AOE2 and the conquerors the other day again after several years since I played the games (couldn't find the disks so bought them all for £4.64) anyway I was pretty young when I used to play them but remember playing on a map on AOE 2/conquerors that was in the shape of Great Britain, am I imagining this or is it there somewhere?
