Well i don't play agaisnt Aztecs, and i don't play Japan, but why not try:

-Mass Ashigaru and Yumi. Use them to counter the rods/zapotecs, and potentiial pumas

-Use Daimyo to make a few Nagis far away. When the Mace attack comes, sweep in on them from behind. It can pick out about 1/3 of the maces easy. With consulate archer dude (shinobi something), you can easily stealth and follow the nagis, for cover when they'll go in. They own pumas and if there are Coyotes, well the Daimyo should be the coyote's #! target, so you can easily get in your inf.

-Then Shirne boom and Age-up, hold off with Flamings + Yumi/Ashi. Build up a strong eco, raid, intensive map control with Daimyos a bit everywhere + Castles and maybe TC's to force the Aztec to stay in his town,

aztecs > japs, and with other civs, too, their rush is very hard to counter.

i'd say fast ashi+anti inf from consulate and go cav asap.

and no if they're making maces you haven't already won, getting cav out isn't that easy and only a few anti cav with his army will save all his maces.

if your enemy is making macehaultins, you already won

send in 5 heavy cavalry and destroy em, simple as that

but id keep them there, let em waste their population for units that do 16 damage

whooops, my bad ;)

with jap, i spose just make ashis, and if he spams machs then train yumi and a handful of nagis. what you could do is age up really really quick, try faster than him. then send the sam (from aging) and try take out fb/vils. ship then 5 ashi/yumis (scout or chck his deck before hand to know what to make). repel his attack, then try and outboom him with constant raiding to halt his eco.

Well, this thread make really wanna reconsider asking for advice in the future. The question was, how to manage a aztec rush with the japanese. Answers: don't play against them (do i need to point out how absurd of an answer to my question that is?), play as india (same as before), hold them off until late game (the problem is surviving their rush and getting to late game, i can own them in late game, and i mean 'hold them off', well, how??), and then you have "send 3 hussars straight away and try take out fb. then muskets/xbows to defend against machs and coyotes" uhmm, i don't think that pertains to Japan.

haha funny seing as a captain is asking for help (dont take offence im only pr 13 in sup ). try and beat them to colonial, send 3 hussars straight away and try take out fb. then muskets/xbows to defend against machs and coyotes

Problem with japanese is they don't have a decent light infantry, which is exactly what you need if you're playing against aztecs, cause all their essential troops are strong against heavy infantry and cavalry. As a result, i'd follow earlier said comment and say don't fight aztecs as japanese, every civ deserves to be easily counterable by another, well this is the best counter to japs IMO.

And to the aenna toma rush, just try to have an equal ammount or more ashis to your disposal.

i agree with ed.

The Aztecs have a very poor late game. So if you can hold to his attacks until the later game you will be sitting just fine.

Your military then should be able to over power him and win.

this is how i beat the aztecs.

But i play against sergeants and corperals.

I'm a major, pr28, mostly play against majors/captains/colonels, they know what they're doing so their economy doesn't die off after so easily, i mean the fire pit can be a major economic boost if used correctly. I use japan and india about the same, but have a harder time countering their rush with japan, though it ain't easy with india either.

LOL, i like that, scare all the noobs.

Anyways back on topic, Master_Exodium what is your rank because noob aztec users usually have a strong rush and that is it. Their eco usually dies and no longer produce enough army units. Also what civ do you use, all of these have to be taken into consideration.

I've learn ways to beat almost every civ with the japs, even to the germans I win more than I lose these days but there are a few things I struggle with, spanish FF (it's fast, shipment spam, on the hands of a good player he'll have cannons, skirmishers and rods in my base by 7-8min and there just doesn't seem to be enough time to build enough of a military in colonial to counter that. And FFing with the japanese against a spanish FF would be suicide), Iroquois aenna/tomahaw rush before 6min and the worse seems to be the Aztec rush. They have great anti cavalry, no really effective counter for coyote runners, and those zapotec and rod shipments that surround your infatry while his amassed macetilhuan keep hitting them. Advice on these please!
